Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium —

This has the potential to go down as a real classic like Mary Poppins or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or even Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  Dustin Hoffman was fabulous as the quirky owner, and his apprentice Natalie Portman was also splendid.  The story was about belief in the impossible, belief in oneself-positive messages without being preachy.  It was kind of billed as a Holiday movie by its release date and I wonder if that is why it didn't get more play time at the theaters.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and would gladly watch it again.  The special effects were very good without overwhelming the characters and taking center stage.  And the characters really do grow in understanding through the course of the story.  It was well done.  Parents love the lack of violence, sex, drugs, and bawdy humor, and yet there still was a definite budding romance, a ton of humor, and a certain amount of anticipation built up during the film, so it wasn't total kids pablum.
