Mr. Brooks Review Summary

Mr. Brooks provides "an interesting insight into the mind of a serial killer." Starring such big names as Kevin Costner, William Hurt, and Demi Moore, this little dark film is about "a happily married businessman leading a double life as an addicted killer trying to reform, but ... egged on by an imaginary alter ego." Reviewers find the story in Mr. Brooks to be "the humanization of a serial killer by intellectual discourse." Viewpoints reviewers enjoy seeing Costner playing against type as "the bad guy," a role completely different than previous roles, such as in Field of Dreams. A select few found Mr. Brooks to be "a little too graphic," albeit keeping them on the edge of their seats the whole time. Mr. Brooks is "a suspenseful thriller that proves Costner can still act."

Mr Brooks is a neat little crime drama with an original story and great casting. The story, by writer-director Bruce A. Evans, is a psychological thriller that is quite intelligent and has a couple of interesting twists that will most likely take you by surprise.

Kevin Costner stars as a highly successful...

Kevin Costner goes Creepy
I never thought I'd see Kevin Costner playing a bad guy, after years of playing sentimental or "guy's guy" roles.  But this dark little film surprises with Mr. Costner as a happily married businessman who leads a double life as (sorry, Honey) an addicted killer, trying...

A happily married mother of 2, into watching movies, looking for a scare

Kevin Costner, William Hurt, Demi More, Dane Cook, Marg Helgenberger and Danielle Panabaker...need I say more? This is a great group of actors and actress'. They each bring their character to life in ways that only they can. I've seen movies that have the wrong actor in them...they just don't mesh well with the entire movie, but this movie is not one of those!

Everything plays out so smoothly, it's easy to follow and even gets you on edge just enough to pull you further into the life and mind of a serial killer.

My one and only problem with this movie is...the daughter...she needs to be completed....

Bottom-Line: When all is said and done Mr. Brooks is a movie well worth seeing if for nothing more than to see Costner don a new suit of theatrical clothing.

If ever there were a picture of the wholesome American male in the dictionary few men would be able to pose; most assuredly Denzel Washington and Kevin Costner would qualify.  That is why it is so (refreshingly) surprising to see Costner portray a serial killer in Mr. Brooks.  But I say it is about time Costner (Field of Dreams, Dances With Wolves, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) threw down the hero's gauntlet, and picked...

I'm not used to Kevin Costner playing a role as the "bad guy" but he pulled it off beautifully.  Some of the scenes were a little too graphic for my tastes but the movie kept me on the edge of my seat.  The ending was not what I would have liked.

The actors played great roles--each of them.  Would watch it again.

Mr. Brooks is a smart Jekyll and Hyde type thriller. I like the smart way it was filmed and edited and some of cinematography (especially in the fight scenes) was tight. The plot while sounding ridiculous in a summary works rather well. And the acting was excellent as well. My husband and I really enjoyed this film.

Plot: Mr. Brooks (Kevin Costner) is the man of the year in his town. He started his own box making business and is supposedly a wealthy man because of it. He volunteers his time and considerable amounts of money to the community. He has a lovely wife Emma (Marg Helgenberger) and a...

I got this movie on a whim through netflix and was pleasantly surprised. I tend to not be interested in this type of movie aka suspense thriller. I am more of a cult and comedy fan but I enjoyed this movie so much! I couldn't walk away. It kept me wondering the whole time and then ending was perfect. It actually got into my emotions and toyed with them. I was very happy with a movie that was this satisfying the whole way through. Worth the watch even if you don't think you like this genre. Brilliant even and dane cook doesn't do too bad in a serious role either.

Mr. Brooks brings two great actors;  Kevin Costner and William Hurt together as seperate identities of the same person.  This is done very well so that we can see what Mr. Brooks is thinking in his head.  The character is complex, and rich.  I recommend this movie just for the dialog between the two seasoned actors, but also for the story line and layers.  This is a movie worth owning that can be watched over and over again.

This movie was absolutely amazing!  I would recommend this movie, and I did, to everyone I know.

The plot moved a little slow in the beginning, but it was setting everything up well.  It was a good thriller that kept you interested the entire time.

The twist at the end was UNBELIEVABLE...it really is the best part of the movie.

this movie was awesome. I loved William Hurt's and Kevin Costner's performances. Any movie that can make you love the bad guys when you know how BAD they are is a great one! The twist involving the daughter was so good. It was a surprising film. i loved the humor between Kevin Costner's character and William Hurt's character. it was interesting from beginning to end!

Wow, what a clever movie, never thought I would see a movie that could make a serial killer that actually had  a heart. I loved how they had an actor portray him talking to himself. They somehow managed to make him have a heart and show how he just wanted to protect his family and his daughter, very, very clever movie. I would definately recommend this movie!

This was an awesome movie! The plot, the conclusion, all great.  Not once during the movie was I disappointed.  I feel that the co-star should have been given an award for Best Supporting Actor.  Dane Cook did a good job doing a serious movie but I would rather laugh at him. Overall a great movie and a definate must see!

I absolutely loved this movie. I am a huge Dane Cook fan which is what sparked my interest to begin with. I was really interested in seeing him play a serious role. He was great by the way, but also the movie was so good I bought it the day it came out. Great twists and plot. I would recommend this to any movie lover.

I really like Costner in these dark, suspensful type movies. While he doesn't have too much character to trhow around he does do a variety of movie genre that are great! Although, I foretold the ending, i enjoyed! Wanted a little more but liked it.

Mr. Brooks was a good movie.  It had a really good storyline and a twist ending that I didn't expect. I actually didn't know anything about this movie when I rented it, but a friend had encouraged me to watch it. It was interesting to see the double life of the main character, and Kevin Costner played the part very well. I would recommend this movie to others.
