Great for the price, but you get what you pay for.

A competent and useful local email client. Positives are that it has nice email sort features, and having the ability to install user created ad-ons is a big plus. However, the program lacks perfect integration with a calendar system although Sunbird is a solution. Thunderbird also has a terrible contacts management system (not enough fields, no good managment tools, and and grouping contacts duplicates the contact). While I wouldn't recommend for a full PIM, if you don't want to pay for something better,it works pretty well.
