I used to like Nancy Grace until she covered a subject that involved something and someone I knew a lot about. It was then that I realized she doesn't do her research, barely knows what she is talking about, and goes on the attack making assumptions based solely on her opinion. I still watch her now and then and I like hearing what others have to say but the flippant way Nancy dismisses anyone who disagrees with her point of view is a turn off.
She really missed the mark when covering the situation I knew about and that makes me wonder how many other things she just infuses opinion rather than fact into and leads us to believe she knows more than she does. She's smart and strong willed but I lost respect for her during that time. She was out for ratings and clearly made an assumption based on opinions without even trying to get the facts.
Patty,
You hit the nail right on the head why I, personally, don't watch Nancy Grace on HLN.
While I don't have the "personal connection" that you did to any cases she has highlighted on her show, I do share your dislike of her dismissive attitudes toward any guests or speakers who don't agree with her on the air, especially when it's someone who is a defense attorney who wants to say something relevant from his or her point of view. She scoffs, she grimaces and she scolds them simply because they say things she clearly does not want to hear.
I know that lots of her fans like her because she is a no-nonsense former prosecutor with an uplifting morality tale of a backstory; as a young woman her fiancee was murdered and she went into law school, became a successful prosecutor and all that, finally finding happiness with her current husband and her twins. And I also realize that many viewers tend to like her aggressive posture on the air because it reflects their sense of moral outrage and a "lock 'em up, throw away the key" attitude toward criminal suspects. It makes for good drama but unfortunately it has caused at least one "guest" to commit suicide. (I don't remember the woman's name, but it was a Florida mom who was suspected of murdering her two-year-old son. She foolishly agreed to talk on the air with Ms Grace, who then went on to interrogate and berate her mercilessly. The next day, the suspect committed suicide. Was she guilty? Maybe, maybe not. Nancy's fans say that she was and point to the suicide as proof of her guilt. But because Nancy has a bias as a former prosecutor and all that, she believes in the concept of "guilty until proven innocent.")
Another thing...she never acknowledges that she is ever wrong.
