I hope no one started this thread already! I looked for it and didn't see anything. :)
I'm ashamed to admit I haven't seen some of the classic holiday movies, like Miracle on 34th St. or It's A Wonderful Life. I have a feeling that I'd love them though. Old movies are the best.
I'd have to say my favorite holiday movie is A Charlie Brown Christmas or Mickey's Christmas Carol. I also love the Santa Bear movies, and classics like Rudolph and Frosty.
What are your favorite holiday movies?

The Night They Saved Christmas it stars Art Carney and Kate Jackson. There is just something about this movie that brings out the christmas spirit in me and my family.

I love this movie too but it's not Kate Jackson, it's Jaclyn Smith. I only remember that because she was always my favorite "angel." This is a really wonderful Christmas movie and I watch it every year and sometimes even during the off season ;+)

I'm sort of embarrassed to admit it, but I am a huge fan of the Ben Affleck little-seen holiday movie, "Surviving Christmas." It is campy but so fun. If you haven't seen it, check it out this holiday.

White Christmas with Bing Crosby & Rosemary Clooney. Any version of A Christmas Carol on TV & in the movies. I watch them over & over. My guilty pleasure for Christmas TV Christmas show: A Charlie Brown Christmas. I love Snoopy dancing around at the end & the way everyone pitches in to decorate the tree that they all hated in the beginning.

I love "Holiday Inn." It catches every holiday in there! Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Irving Berlin.... the ingredients are right!

I love the old standards, "Holiday Inn" and "White Christmas", Miracle on 34th St", but the one I absolutely have to watch every year is "A Christmas Story"!

I don't really celebrate/commemorate Christmas holidays - but I, like others really enjoy "It's a Wonderful Life" any day of the year :)

I just watched White Christmas for the first time as an adult last year. I remember hating all those old Christmas movies growing up but now I am learning to appreciate them.
I still can't get into A Christmas Story. I worked with a church youth group and they were showing it at a Christmas party and me and some other girls went into another room to watch Little Women with Winona Ryer. Speaking of Little Women; I love the older version with Elizabeth Taylor.
To this day I still haven't been able to get into the movie It's A Wonderful Life even though my parents watch it several times every year. I think it's so depressing. Give me Dolly Parton in Tenessee Mountain Christmas or Unlikely Angel any day!!

I like Deck the Halls and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (Jim Carey). When I was little I loved the cartoon of Frosty the Snowman and I use to cry when he melted, lol. Oh, I like Rudolph too.

I realize that this doesn't make me stand out from the crowd but I'm a sucker for "A Christmas Story" about the little boy named Ralphie back in the 40's. I've seen (and loved) "It's a Wonderful Life" many times but I always make sure to be there in front of my set for the big Charleston contest. And I still get a chill when Jimmy Stewart runs his car into the old man's tree and things begin to get wierd. Truly, it's a wonderful movie! Another favorite is "A Christmas Carol", the version made back in 1950. Thanks, Katie, for starting such a nice thread. I must admit that with all the relentless wrapping, mailing and what not, my Christmas spirit was beginning to take a shellacking but HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL!
Of the two movies you named, I prefer A Christmas Story. I liked its warped sense of humor and emotional honesty much better than I do Frank Capra's shmaltzy sentinentality.

Almost that time again.... I have both the older and the newer version of 'Miracle on 34th Street' that I inflict upon my kids every year. Last year we even got creative and did a comparative review of them here on viewpoints.

My favorites are The Polar Express, A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart as well as the one with George C. Scott, Scrooged, Bad Santa (Yeah, I know I'm wrong, but whattaygonnado?), to name a few....
C'mon, Mike. "Bad Santa" is actually a touching, heartwarming movie. That little boy could melt even the Scrooge's heart. I love that movie!

It's not really Christmas without a viewing of Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland's 1972 production of The Nutcracker. Then the cartoons--Grinch, Rudolph, and The Year Without a Santa Claus (Mr. Heat Miser!)

All the movies mentioned are great Holiday entertainment. My favorites are The Christmas Shoes, it just touches me SO much and has a lot of personal meaning for me.
Next would be The Christmas Story, gotta love Ralphie and that 'leg lamp' with the fishnet stocking on it lol.
Lastly The Polar Express, I love the fantasy of it and of course the animation is superb. Oh and how can I forget A Charlie Brown Christmas, there's just something about that little forlorn tree and the real meaning of Christmas.

I have loved The Christmas Shoes too and even did a review. I cried every time I watched it but now I think it's always going to have an even greater significance to me. This August I was watching it with my family and some dancers from my ballet troupe. We were watching it when my friend CoupleOnCloud9 arrived at my house to tell me my boyfriend died from the injuries he sustained during an ATV accident a few days earlier. I knew when I met her at my door what she was going to tell me. Now when I watch the movie I will think of him, our love for each other and our years that we danced together. He traded his ballet shoes for a pair of beautiful shoes that allow him to walk on streets of gold.

There are many great films.
- A Christmas Carol based on the book by Charles Dickens
- The Nightmare Before Christmas directed by Tim Burton
- It's A Wonderful Life starring James Stewart and Donna Reed
- White Christmas starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney
I know there are more but these are some of the most memorable for me.

Mine is definitely A Christmas Story!! I love Ralphie's expressions and imagination. The movie makes me wish things were simple and innocent, like they are in the era in the movie. Everything's just so fast paced now a days.
I'm not terribly fond of made-for-TV movies that deal with the holidays, so I'll have to go with A Christmas Story as well. Jean Sheperd's original story is full of ironic asides that go against the grain of holday movies, and it was nicely done in movie form.
