I heard that actor Paul Newman passed away last night at the age of 83.  Does anyone have any thoughts about his life and career?  Here's a few better-known films he appeared in: Exodus (1960), Torn Curtain (1966), Cool Hand Luke (1967). Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid (1969), The Sting (1973), SlapShot (1977), Absence of Malice (1981), The Verdict (1982), The Color of Money (1986), Road to Perdition (2002).

Ok, so it's ironic (well not so since he was sick and 84) but every day my Hanna eats his dog food and I was thinking that we would be losing him soon. He's really one of the great guys. I never read a scandal with either Joanne Woodward or Newman unless Im missing something??? Jo

Oh no, I was just thinking I had not heard anything about his health issue lately. I really loved his movies especially Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. He will be missed. I feel for his wife, Joanne Woodward, and the rest of his family. They had such a great relationship and marriage. You're right, Jo, there was never a scandal about him or Joanne.

One of the best-looking, coolest, most talented, and genuinely human guys in show business...or ANY business. He was the Hollywood legend who chose not to live in Hollywood, stayed with the same, good woman for 50 years, and aged with grace. And, at the end of the day, when it was clear that he had more money than he could ever hope to spend, he did the right thing and put it where it could do some real good. We won't see the likes of him again any time soon.

He was pure class on and off of the screen...  I met him and his wife at lunch many years ago at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.  He impressed me because he was so down to earth and a real gentleman.  They don't come like that very often. He will be missed.

He was a great actor, maybe the last of his kind. Not to long ago I watched the movie "Cool Hand Luke" for the first time with my father in Law. It was an excellent movie if somewhat sad. Not only is he known for being an awesome actor, but he is also known for his great charity work. All proceeds from his food company go to many different charites around the world. I hope that now that he is gone his children will continue what he had started. Although he will be missed, his legend will live on & on.

The world lost a wonderful, kind, compassionate, giving man.  His and Joanne's marriage was one of the few life long Hollywood marriages.

I really hated to see this, and had to shed a few tears the day he passed. My two favs as actors are Deniro and Pacino, but Paul is right there. His body of work, generosity, and class will be missed. We lost one of the "last" greats, and a credit to humanity. My all-time favorite Newman films would be:

The Hustler/The Sting/Nobody's Fool/Cool Hand Luke/and The Color of Money.

He was a class act. He is as well known for his charities as for his acting. He was self depracating. He once said his headstone would read If he had been born with brown eyes he wouldn't have had a career. He aged so gracefully;I think he was the best looking movie star ever. He was very good in "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid' & "The Sting". His dramatic work was even better. I watch "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" every chance I can. His portrayal of Brick gives me goosebumps. "The Young Philedelphians" "From The Terrace" & "Hud" were brilliant performances. He should have won an Acadcemy Award long before he did. I knew we were going to lose him but I wasn't ready. Besides how can you not love somebody who made Richard Nixon's "Enemies" list?
