I wish I had been home last night to see the new television series, "V". I never heard about it until I read the "next day" reviews. Patterned after a book and old 1980s series it had tremendous ratings and rave reviews. I watched the first 8 minutes of the show on my computer and couldn't wait to see if it had posted to Primetime on Demand. ABC doesn't post there so I am out of luck- maybe Hulu...

Anyone see it? What did you think? I don't remember watching the old mini series so I have no idea what to expect. [or maybe it isn't a thing like the 80s version?!?]

Well, I was able to see it on CastTV and thought it was so confusing. The story line was all jumbled up and then towards the middle they start showing the credits. That is when I realized whoever posted it put the segments together wrong. I went back to the main site and noticed they had three copies available. I watched the second one- same thing. The third one seemed to make sense and seemed to be put together in the correct order of the storyline.  By then I was frustrated and really wasn't paying attention.

At this point I don't know what to think. I do think I like it. I will give it a chance next week and see what I think. Since watching it I have read mixed reviews.

My wife and I watched the premiere and enjoyed it.  ABC is getting real good at these type of scripted dramas; can't wait for next week's episode.

I'm surprised it's not on ABC.com, I looked and didn't see it.  They usually post full episodes on there, that is where i usually watch Desperate Housewives since I can't tape it on Sundays.

Ok so I do like the show.  But I think it takes a certain type of person to like it.  Are you in to sci-fi at all?  If not, you probably will never really get into this one.

The only thing I don't care for is the title.  Searching for V online or on my tv guide has been a PAIN!

I saw it and liked it a lot! I'm taping it weekly. I love dr. and lawyer stuff and crime stuff but there is just so much I can take. This is different:)

I liked what I saw once I was able to piece the story line together correctly. The criticism I read was mostly from people who were comparing it to the old mini-series. I didn't see that so I am looking at it with fresh eyes. I love the casting. Morena Baccarin [plays Anna] is gorgeous and is perfect for that role. I also like Scott Wolf [plays the news reporter, Chad Decker]. I am looking forward to seeing his  character develop. Is it just me or did he appear to look like Christopher Reeves at times?

I do like sci-fi. In fact, some of my favorite movies are sci-fi.

I agree with the whole title thing. I had the same problem with 24 though. It just doesn't search well.

This is the first season that I have actually been bored with the law and dr. shows. I think it is just overload.

I like the new series, Trauma though.

As someone who saw the original miniseries in 1984, I was pleased with two things:

Both versions were created by Kenneth Johnson, which means it's not simply a remake by someone who bought the rights to the title.

And while both have the same premise of aliens coming to Earth posing as friends but acting as foes, the execution is very different.

So, Alex, would you recommend us finding the original series to watch?

I read that this will only be four episodes long and then they will suspend the show for the 2010 Winter Olympics and then complete the season beginning in March. I hope people won't have forgotten about it by then.

If you can find the original miniseries from 1984, yes.  The series that NBC later trotted out was not that great.

The interesting thing about the original version was that it was in some ways an allegory about Nazi Germany and the Holocaust.  If you watch it or read the novelization by A.C. Crispin, you'll see what I mean.

Thanks, Alex. I found the full episodes at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086822/  [if anyone else is interested] but don't have time to watch them today.

Do you know if the mini is available on DVD or Blu-ray?  I would rather watch V on my TV rather than have to stay glued to my computers!

I found it on DVD- not sure about Blu-ray...

I have a cable that connects my laptop to my TV so I can watch it on TV through the computer...
