I cannot live without my DVR (or some of you might have Tivo) but am often shocked to find out how many people do not have a DVR of any sort and if they miss an episode of their show, they just miss it.  End of story.

The DVR has brought me the opportunity to watch many things I never would have!  I can now record an entire series and watch it anytime I want instead of when it is on.  Shows that conflict are ok too because I can tape 2 at a time.

I try not to go overboard and I will stop taping a series if I find I'm not watching it.  Like So You Think You can Dance got the boot this season because I'm tired of it since it was just on in the summer.

The best thing about the DVR is that I no longer have to know when my shows are on!  I just set up the series recording and then every night I can see what is going to be recorded and decide what I want to watch or just tape.

On the other hand, I have friends who always say they don't watch much TV so they don't need this.  Yet some of them will rearrange their schedules to make sure they can watch their favorite show.  I don't feel like I watch too much TV but we really do have the TV on all the time when we are home.  While I'm on VP, or working on my scrapbook, or exercising even, I have one of my shows on :)

What about you?  Do you have a DVR/Tivo?  If so, do you love it or just use it casually?  If not, do you find sometimes that you wish you did or do you truly feel it's useless?

We have a DVR and I love it. Of course, there is Hulu, but they don't always have the shows up in a timely fashion. I have to have a DVR, if not I wouldn't be able to watch anything. Kids have taken over my TV!

I couldn't live without my DVR.  In fact, if times ever get tough in the future and we need to cut the luxuries, I will cut something else out so I can have my DVR.  It is SO worth every cent of the $12.00 I pay to have it.  I haven't watched a commercial in forever.  I'm so bad, I will put live TV on pause while I go to the bathroom, make dinner, etc...just so I don't have to watch commercials!

MrsVerret - plus Hulu is supposed to start charging soon so forget that!  I wish more channels would put their reruns online.  At least a lot of them do now, but many of them don't so I still need my DVR.

this2 - I agree :-D  DVR would be the last to go :)  I can think of other ways to save 10$ a month or whatever it is.  It's funny when I forget that I can FF the commercials (I forget I taped it!) and end up watching them anyway.  It's also funny when I forget that I can pause live tv!  No longer do I have to wait for a commercial to get a drink.  Great points :)

I love my DVR. I too would find any other way to cut that amount from my bill, but in my case it's only 4.00 a month whooo hoo! With so many kids in the house there is the teenage shows, the MTV and VH1 shows, the PBS shows and of course Nick. Then my DH loves reality like Extreme Home Makeover, The Apprentice and Amazing Race. We could never sit down and watch then in peace and quiet without DVR. Now we can snuggle on the couch, have a drink the kids sleep and we don't have to miss a thing.  Best of all I can watch a show in half the time or less! If I miss one, oh well, but don't want to miss too many ya know! Everyone needs a little downtime.

I love my DVR as well, and I can't remember life before it!  And with my hectic schedule I usually don't catch up with my programs until the weekend!  TV for me is an escape, and no escape would be possible without my DVR!

We have only had ours for about 6 months and love it.  I cannot believe how much I love it!  I don't like to be tied down to watching something at a specific time and sometmes I'm just not in the mood to watch TV so it's great to have the option to tape stuff and watch it when I get around to it.

Lisa, I actually dont know how much my DVR cost.  That's one of the bills my husband handles, but I know we can manage to keep it no matter what :-D  Speaking of kids, my mom uses the DVR to tape some of my nephew's favorite show so he can watch one while he eats his fruit when they baby sit him.  I think that is a cool idea since kids shows schedules change sometimes but the kids still want to see them.

Bard - I also can hardly remember life before DVR.  I also can't remember life before the internet :-D  I usually watch my reality shows instantly so I can update my blog and get some hits!  But it is nice that if I don't feel like watching, I don't have to.  I often save shows like The Office for the weekends when nothing else is on.

Would never go back to life without a DVR unless I absolutely had to. I am so used to taping certain shows, being able to pause while I do something, and all the rest that I would be lost without mine. I don't know how much I pay for mine from Time Warner but I don't care. I NEED my DVR! I had TiVo before cable started giving out DVRs with their packages and liked it but the DVR is easier to use for me.

I just wish I could tape more than one show and the one I am watching. I sometimes want to tape two shows and watch one. What a TV junkie I am! But it seems everything comes on at the same time!

A few years ago. while I was stuck in analysis paralysis in selecting a DVR, my sister-in-law kept screaming "Tivo will change your life".  So, I took the plunge and honestly don't know what I'd do without it.

I have a DVR and really enjoy it, but it's actually only an incremental improvement over a VCR (and I got my first VCR in 1977). With a VCR, you can record shows -- some can even be set to record weeks of programs. Of course, you can only record so much on a single tape, although the limit was six hours if you were willing to compromise quality. You could also zip through commercials with a VCR. And there was no monthly fee for a VCR.

There is no question that a DVR is an improvement. I have HD and the DVR records gorgeous HD video. Can't do that with a VCR. And it's very convenient to be able to simultaneously record two shows while watching another. And the DVR is really easy to program.

I have to wonder about all the things I hear when people talk about their DVRs... didn't you guys have a VCR? I never missed an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation with my VCR and definitely could zip through commercials.

Here's a funny - I'm so used to my DVR and being able to pause and rewind live TV that it's spilled over into real life.  For example, one of my kittens is always doing something cute or hilarious and a few times a week I find myself literally grabbing the remote and quickly realizing that I can't rewind real life LOL!

Sure I had a VCR.  But it is so good to be able to halt a program when the phone rings without having to tell the other party that they're cutting in to your TV time.

I would love a DVR, but they came out a few years ago we signed up for our satellite. Now they are a standard "gift" for new customers. Unfortunately, we are too cheap to buy one ourselves, so we're stuck with recoding our own shows by hand. It's not bad. Just pop in a VHS and select <RECORD>.

DVR is the greatest invention since pinicillin.  Ok..maybe that's a stretch, but the DVR has changed TV viewing radicalliy.  I work different shifts, but I don't have to worry about working a night my favorite show is on.  Just set the DVR, watch it when I get home!

Patty - I know, money is no object when it comes to DVR.  Get a phone call?  Pause it.  I also get so many more chores done because I can pause TV to do them!  Getting sleepy?  Press record to finish the show later :)

Bob - Well my mom did tape A LOT on the VCR back in the day, but the convenience of DVR can't be beat.  Especially since we don't even have to know when a show is going to be on to record it :)

Buggheart - so you wish you had a remote like the one in Click :)  haha.  I don't go that far but I'm so used to the DVR that when I'm at my sisters i go nuts - she doesn't even have a guide let alone a DVR and she still knows when all the shows are on.

Angi - see if you can get a deal!  Just tell them you are thinking of switching to another carrier that offers DVRs for cheap and then I bet you any money they will throw in one for free for you.  You will love it!

Mike - Yep life is no longer planned around TV!  You can tape it while you work, sleep or hang out with friends and then watch it on a slow day.
