Although I haven't watched it in a while, I was an avid viewer of House Hunters. My boyfriend and I were basically obsessed with the show. It's amazing how a show about house hunting can be so addictive. You know that you are obsessed with the show when you can basically predict what the potential buyers are going to say when they tour the houses.  You know that they will make a comment about stainless steel appliances, crown molding, hardwood floors, open layout (I personally can't stand open floor plans),double sinks for the bathroom, and here it comes...the VIEW (because we all know that a house isn't perfect if it doesn't have a fabulous view!

Believe it or not, I haven't even heard of this show. But I can see how this would be addictive. I like looking at properties, so I think it might be best if I stay away. A site like this could easily addict me as well.

I'm not obsessed with it but I like it a lot.  I love seeing what homes in different areas are selling for and my husband and I comment about what's ugly or what's nice and which one we'd pick.

I've watched it from time to time, especially lately since I have been house shopping. In some ways it presents an unrealistic experience of house hunting since many homes I have looked at are messy, not well maintained, or are badly decorated - something you never see on the show. (especially some of the foreclosed properties - some are just a wreck!)

A freind of mine urged me to sign up for the show since she knew I would be house hunting. Turns out that you have to already have a contract on a home to be on the show and then pretend you are deciding between 3 of them - that's TV!

Yeah, that's a good point.  It is nice to know what homes sell for in different areas.  It's amazing that houses of similar sizes selling in different areas  can vary so greatly in price.  I've seen one house cost a half million dollars on one episode, and then in another episode, a similar sized home in another area cost half that much.

JovialCougar, thanks for pointing out that aspect of the show. I visit another message board in which people had started saying that basically the experience that the "potential" buyers go through on the show is fake. And you validated for me what those posters were saying.

I haven't watched this but I have taken in several episodes of "Sell This House".   The part that cracks me up is when they record the people doing the initial walk-through at the open house.  People are so spoiled nowadays -- they walk through a really beautiful old house and complain about the current owner's FURNITURE or something like that!  As though they are going to buy the furniture too!!!!!!

AnnaBanana, love your name by the way, you are so right about the attitudes of the buyers on these types of shows. They really do seem to think that the current owner's furniture that they see during the walk-through is what their final decision is going to be based on, when really they should be more concerned about the actual features of the house since that is what they will have to deal with if they choose to buy that home. The furniture is neither here nor there.

TheBard and I watch a few episodes per week.  What annoys me is when the person is complaining about the color of a room as though it's a deal breaker.  Isn't it just a given that you're going to want to repaint at least some of the rooms when you move in?

It also never fails to amaze me when folks are so specific about what they absolutely "must have", but then balk at the price.  Well, you're not likely to get granite countertops, 5 bedrooms/3baths, a finished basement, on a 1/2 acre landscaped lot in California for $100,000. OK, I'm exaggerating, but just barely.  Sometimes people really seem to have high expectations on a low budget.

Still, those are just minor nit-picks.  For the most part I enjoy the hunt and trying to guess if they pick the house I would. :)

I want to know why people get so upset over the paint colors!  It's not like you can't paint before you move in.

Yeah, people do get anxious when they see paint colors that they don't like.  And then their agent has to tell them that it's really easy to change paint colors.
