Motorola - i880 Cell Phone —
I have had the i880 for over a year now. It's been a beautiful phone, durable, good camera and excellent sound, nice looking. Just recently, I started experiencing the problem of the screen inverting when I would open the phone. I called Sprint to ask them what to do and was directed to a service center for repair. Took the phone in today--(I don't have a service plan since I have never lost or broken any of my phones), and was told that the repair would cost me $55.00 that I needed a new flip. Stuck, I paid them to fix it. After doing some research on the web about other owners with the same problem, I discovered that this is actually a manufacturers defect that Motorola has been keeping quiet about. No notification that the phone needed the LCD ribbon and flip replacement, or instructions as to how to get it fixed. The idea that you have to mail off a phone to Motorola for an undetermined period of time and wait while they fix something that took the local service center all of 10 minutes to do is absolutely ludicrous! I called Sprint and told them that I felt this was completely unacceptable to me--(I've been a customer for over 10 years). Next thing I know, they are crediting my account for the $55.00 I paid the local service center. Now, I still think the whole thing was a pain and don't trust Motorola OR Sprint as far as I could throw either of them, but at least my tenacity paid off. 10 minutes at local service center getting repair + 8 1/2 minutes on the phone with a Sprint representative = Free Repair of problem. If you have been gouged to repair yours, maybe you should call Sprint as I did. It's easier than waiting to collect the $55. after someone files a class action lawsuit against them 5 years from now...Hope this helps somebody.
