we are on our sixth warrentied phone since October

1

We have had two of these phones since October.  They have warrentied the batteries a couple times each, and sent us 6 replacement phones in 5 months.  They don 't know why variuos parts of the phone die.  It is never the same part.  Not worth our money and our service provider will not let us undo the upgrade or offer us any thing other then the same phone.  We are considering an attorney to get out of our contract.  We can't make calls out now and can seldom recieve calls, no texts in or out.  The service tech said he has never seen anything like it.

This is an all around great little phone.

This is a great little phone.  It seems to be sturdy and has great sound.  Bought 3 of them I liked it so much.  I usually have trouble hearing on the cell phone but on this phone everything is loud and clear.  It comes in 3 great colors from my carrier.  Purple, green and black.

If You Are Looking For Just A Phone, This One Will Do The Trick

3

I have a Motorola W490 as my work cell phone. It is very similar to the Motorola Razor phones, but with a slimmer yet heavier design. The W490 is a bit heavier than the Razor series of phones, which I actually like. It fits easily into the small inner pocket of my purse which has also been really great and convenient for me. If you are a man, I imagine it would easily fit in the front pocket of your trousers without much annoyance. For me the phone holds a charge for a really long period of time; usually one and a half to two weeks. The phone works great just for that purpose - a phone. I have had no problems receiving or making calls and the volume is great as well; it also comes with a wide variety of pre-programmed ring tones which is nice. I do not care for the menu feature on this phone. I often have difficulty finding things I am looking for. I also don't like that the phonebook isn't the first thing to pop up on the menu screen, it's one of the last and it seems to take a long while for me to get to the number I need. Other than that I really don't have many complaints. I use a Smartphone as my personal phone so to me the W490 is a little archaic, but for people who want only a phone, this one will serve the purpose well.

Great Phone with Many Features

5

This phone is the best. It has a built-in 1.3MP camera for picture taking on the go. It also has expandable memory using micro SD cards. It has a music player application for playing music. One flaw I find is the mini-usb connector is used both for headset connection and for charging which means you cannot charge the phone while using headset. For me, I use bluetooth to defeat that flaw. The battery life is long, I'm able to talk for over 5 hours on one single charge and standby is about 10 days. It looks similar to the RAZR but the design is better and specifications are higher than the RAZR. The dual screen is great, you can add a picture to the caller ID and the picture will show up on the exterior screen when someone calls. It does not however have that many built-in ring tones but you can use the Moto Software that comes with the phone to create your own ring tones.

Motorola W490: well-constructed phone with thorough engineering

4

This phone is basic. It does not have a lot of features compared to the touchscreen phones of today. But, with every feature it does have, it is very well-designed. If you want a phone for doing what phones are supposed to do, then this is the phone for you. If you want a phone for doing what a computer is supposed to do, then this is not the right phone. For those in the former category, the following are the reasons why: Long battery life - it was lasting between a couple days to almost a week after 2 years of use. Small size - the smallest, slimmest touchphone I have owned. It's form factor is simply awesome - not too wide to grip comfortably, not too long to fit in your pants, but still big enough to give you a nice screen and big enough buttons. Feels solid - solid build with a very nice design, aesthetically. Excellent voice quality - the best and clearest of any phone I've owned. Powerful signal strength - never had a problem with not being able to make a call (except when abroad, in Taiwan) Good screens and camera - screens are very nice, with the outside screen becoming reflective when dimmed, so that you can still read the time even without needing to make the screen come up. Also both screens are color. Modding-friendly - if you're into modding your phone, Motorolas have a large community, and a lot of software for it. There were two negative points for me. The software was not very responsive by itself. It took an outrageous amount of time from when you push the power button until you could dial a number. Also, at almost 2 years, the phone broke, with a common problem many people report on the web. The symptoms are - the screen would fade to white, and the phone becomes unresponsive. The reason - the flex cable that connects the two halves of the phone wears out after years of use, and the connection becomes flakey. I was able to fix my phone by replacing the cable, which in itself, was rather challenging.

Good cellphone, still is decent right now

This was my 2nd cellphone and I have to say that I was very pleased with it. The basic functions all work very well and the navigations are easy. For calling and making contacts etc, I had no trouble at all. The other features are worth discussing. The photo quality isn't super but it's actually very good and moderately clear. I know many phones out there right now who take worse photos (even the 4g itouch has worse photo taking ability). The photos also snap quickly so you don't get annoyed waiting for it to process. And the video quality is even more impressive. Normally you wouldn't think much of video recording on a phone but this one does wonders. The zoom doesn't make the video blurry (it actually looks clear) and the original video is very watchable. I used this function the most aside from photo taking. Right now this thing may be outdated but if you were looking for a cheap phone, this one would be great!

The Motorola W490 is a decent enough phone...

I have the Motorola W490, because I have two phone lines and it was time to upgrade my phones, because I was not interested in paying (much, or at all) for the phone that would be used on my second line. This phone was probably free, I don't remember right now. I actually wanted something else, but it wasn't Fave5 compatible, so I went with this one. When it arrived, I took it out of the box, looked it over and then put it back in the box. It sat in the box for a few months before I decided to switch from the Samsung flip phone that I had been using on my second line. Nothing about this phone is particularly exciting to me. It is really just another phone. It makes calls, sends/receives text messages, etc. I have taken a few snap shots with the camera, but they aren't the best quality. I have not even ventured to do much with the phone - like play games - or anything like that, because I have the Motorola Cliq as my main phone and I pretty much do everything from that. The Motorola W490 is good if you are giving a phone to a young child for safety purposes and all tha is really going to be done is phone calls and occasional text messaging. If you are into a lot of features and abilities...and internet usage or anything like that, you'll definitely want to look into getting something else.

The Motorola W490 has been reliable, but lacks some key features

4

I've had this phone for a couple of years. It has been very reliable, despite having been dropped several times.   I know it is a little silly, but I love the pink color.  It is also very small and compact and easy to carry around with me, whether in my pocket or purse. I find it fairly easy to dial, but the hands-free voice calling feature is weak. My biggest frustration is that I can't find any setting to alert me to having a voice mail message waiting. It will give the signal when the voice mail message is left. However, when I look at the screen, there is only a very small icon indicating that there is a message. I have not been able to find any way to alert me on an ongoing basis that there are messages waiting. So I have missed many calls, since I don't usually call my voice mail message all the time. If I go to make a call, it shows that calls have been missed. The camera on the phone isn't the best - I get pictures, but they are usually pretty low quality.

Favorite cell phone EVER.

I love love love this phone. It is so cute! And easy to use, also. Not too much stuff on there to get confused with. It always works right, and I have never had any problems with it. I have even dropped it in water and it still works to this day!

Manageable

Pros: Fun Colors, Hard to break! (great for me, I've dropped it about a million times...) Cons: Heavy, size is inconvenient, clear covering over the keys start peeling off after 500 texts... I wouldn't recommend it. There are other phones at this price that are much better
