Any time now Massachusetts will not allow (thankfully) the ability to hold cell phones while driving. I did not have a lot of money the day I bought my husband the Motorola Universal Bluetooth Headset H390. I bought the least expensive one that didn't come with batteries, i.e. the battery is rechargeable. My husband has used it twice and I hope Best Buy will take it back.

Some specifications from motorola.com:

The range is 33 feet.

It measure (H x W x D) 2.1inches high by .63  inches wide by .472 deep.

It is very lightweight. I can't imagine anything weighing less.

The talk time is up to 8 hours.

The standby time is up to 8.3 days.

The Motorola Universal Bluetooth Headset H390 has a battery level indicator, volume control, and an in-ear ear-bud with over-the-ear mount.

All that is well and good except for one problem. The site says "outstanding audio quality" and the audio quality is horrible. My husband wasn't going to tell me but I had a feeling he wasn't using it because of my experience with him on his cell phone. Before I say anything else bad I will say that it is comfortable. It can be worn all day perhaps because it is so light. Still if it doesn't work even on maximum sound then it is not functional.

My husband used it twice. Once was for a business call and the person kept saying "What did you say?" The second time was a call to me. He can hear me fine but I could not just not hear him but I could not understand 90% of what he was saying.

It was only about $25.00. I'll be willing to spend twice that for a Bluetooth that is a better quality than the Motorola Headset H390.

You can get a wired device as either a headset or earbud style. The one I have uses a clip over the ear, so it's not really an earbud. I'm not crazy about earbuds either, since I've yet to find one that will fit.

I have that trouble with earbuds. I'm just lucky I don't have this issue with my car.

Thanks, Bob- sounds sort of like the ear buds I used to have?

You could try a tiny little wired earpiece. I have one for my cell phone and it cost only around $12 at Kmart. It has a wire with a plug on the end that connects to the phone, so it never needs batteries. It sounds and works great... in fact, it sounds better than the microphone and earphone built into the cell phone. Yes, it has a wire but what it doesn't have are all the problems that come with a cheap wireless device.

Good review!

That's cool that your car is Bluetooth enabled. How far we've come!

Thanks, Patty. I have a credit at Best Buy plus returning this one so I'll be able to buy a better one. I'll remember that name and then I can review it. My car is Bluetooth enabled and I love it - so need for the thing in my ear!

I have a hard time trying to put anything in my ear. I even find discomfort in ear buddies for my MP3 player. My friends use some gadget that connects to your cellphone while it's in the car that turns it into a hands free speaker phone. It sits in a cup holder or you can clip it to your visor or air vent. Not sure of the name but it's pretty cool.

Try a Jawbone. They are the best and not too expensive. Even I can hear well on mine and I can't hear well. lol.
