Motorola - Razr V3m Cell Phone —

I've been using the Verizon version of the Motorola Razr V3M for about a and a half. Whatever affinity I had for it at the beginning has faded quickly over the past 18 months.

On the plus side, it is sleek and utilitarian, although the styling is somewhat dated, I think. My Razr just looks plain next to newer, more feature rich phones. Size is, of course, a big plus with the Razr. It's very thin, and would fit easily into a back pocket without feeling bulky or obtrusive.

The internal LCD is nice and bright, but the red and black Verizon OS is, unfortunately, ugly and uncustomizable. The outer LCD seems less sharp, and is only useful to view incoming calls and to check the time occasionally. When the phone is opened, the outer LCD simply displays a static "Verizon" logo. It would be nice if it could be configured to show the time, or other useful info, but that's just Verizon for you...

Reception is excellent with this phone, and I very rarely ever drop a call. Even with one or zero bars, I'm often able to get acceptable connectivity. A big plus for this phone, and probably the sole reason to own one, if reception is important to you. If you spend a lot of time making calls indoor, this phone may fit the bill.

Call clarity is average, but I often have trouble using the speakerphone. It's plenty loud, but the other party often has trouble picking up what I'm trying to say (as if it drops out occsaionally).

The stake in the heart of this little bugger is the dismal battery. Even when brand new, a days worth of moderate calling activity would expend this phone's battery. 18 months later, battery performance is even worse. It's more or less dead after an hour or so of calls.

The Razr V3M is a bit long in the tooth, and there are better options out there nowadays, especially considering all of the "free" deals available now.
