I purchased the Motorola Razr 6 months ago.  My contract with Cingular Wireless had expired and I decided to get a new phone.

I was on my patio grilling and having a martini with a friend after work when my Razr was delivered.  I took it outside and began opening the packaging.  I remember the inital horror of turning on the phone and realizing that you cannot see a thing on the display if it is used in sunlight.  How annoying!  After taking it inside and going to a dim area, I was able to go through the process of inserting the battery and activating the phone.  That part was relatively easy.

As you may have noticed above I mentioned that it's sleek thin style is a pro and a con.  It is wonderful when you just want to slide your phone into your front pocket and not notice it.  But most women I know carry a purse and I cannot begin to tell you how many times I thought I lost my phone because it slipped to the bottom and I could not find it.  It is also annoying when you can hear it ringing and you are digging furiously but are unable to pull it out in time...this happens the most when I drive.  As far as reception I think it is relatively good.  Nothing that exceeds my expectations.  I can hear my party clearly and static/wind isn't usually an issue.

The biggest flaw on this phone is the battery.  Boy does this thing ever stink.  Very unpredictable and the battery life is one of the poorest I've seen on a phone.  It has gotten so annoying that I am strongly considering buying a new phone.

The camera takes decent pictures, although I don't use it much.  I have never tried the video option either.

My final thoughts is this phone just doesn't have enough redeeming qualities to overcome all the negative aspects.  It looks cute but is not practical.  I wish I would have done better research before buying and do not recommend this phone.

I agree with you. I have used the video feature, though, and it is a great feature...especially when you have a 4 month old who does new things unexpectedly and the only thing you have available is your video camera on your phone! :)

I agree with everything you've mentioned here, especially the display being hard to see outside (and sometimes inside if the lights are bright.) The only other thing I would add is that the display is held to the side of your face when talking which means, at least for me, that I am constantly having to clean my make up off it. I don't know how the display could be placed differently to avoid this, but it is a big con for me and I agree that I wish I'd done more research before buying the RAZR.
