I have had my Razr (Cherry Blossom) through t-Mobile for almost a year now. To date I have sent back 2 of these phones since March 2007 due to the phone just dying. They tried to get me to just buy a battery, which I think is a common scam from what I have read here, but that doesn't fix the problem long term. My first phone would not hold the charge from the charger for longer than 10 seconds at one time. They tried to just sell me a battery, but I made the check the phone to make sure that was the problem. Sure enough, it was a warrenty defect. The second phone had the circuit board fail to hold the charge. The battery in this instance was also fine, even though (you guessed it) they tried to sell me a new one. I made them check this as well and give me better detail on why it failed. It is possible that both circumstances were identical; the board didn't hold the charge, because I have not yet replaced the battery this year... (I was also told that the second phone failed due to water damage and dropping the phone, however, the phone had worked after getting rained & cried on and after being dropped. It was several hours later that it failed & I was never charged for the phone once I returned it, so that was NOT the problem!!! These things are durable, the circuit boards are protected. They just don't last long. probably made in China...)
I suggest you buy the phone, but DON'T let them talk you into a new battery until they have fully examined your phone (if you experience the "dead" phone that I did). Also, keep a back-up phone handy. You have to pay upfront for a rental at this crazy $100+ fee, but you get your money back when they get their phone back (ie after your replacement comes in the mail in a week or two.)
