The Cliq XT is a decent phone, made by a horrible company.

3

Motorola used to be a name respected in the cell phone industry, but the Cliq XT is a shining example of why so many dislike them now, the phone was released with Android 1.5...6 months after android 2.1 was readily available, and now, with Android 3.0 on the looming horizon, the Cliq XT owners are still waiting for the Android 2.1 update they were told would be 'ready' in June, 2 delays later it's still not available. Motorola's approach to the whole situation has been deplorable, absolutely no information until the last possible day and the only information provided is a new window for possibly providing it. In a world so dependant on technology, being behind is bad enough, being that far behind is incomprehensible, using Android 1.5 when 2.2 is avaliable and 3.0 is coming is like still being on a computer running Windows 95 in 2010. Sadly, something as seemingly insignificant as a weekly progress update, would satisfy 90% of the complaints, yet Motorola has taken the approach of complete silence, while the Cliq XT owners sit back and watch a myriad of Motorola's other phones on more 'popular' networks get their updates. Basically saying they are more important because they give us more money.

Not good till Rooted and used with Android 2.1/2,2/2,3

3

This phone had a lot of potential. Unfortuantely the company that made the phone made a huge mistake with it and not upgrading it to Android 2.1 really was bad. However, it is possible to root the phone. Rooting the phone allows for various ROMS made by Adlx, Mastermind278, Turl, etc to run on this phone. While Motorola let the phone stay on Android 1.5, the community developers have made it run Android 2.1, 2.2 and even the brand new Android 2.3. The phone with it's original software is quite slow. It really has a lot of software that just slows it down, BLUR especially. Once you get the phone slightly deblurred it honestly does run nicely. As mentioned before, the phone will run a lot beter with Android 2.1. The ROMS actually run really great and feel a lot better than the original 1.5. Also with the 2.1 you can run games like Angry Birds (1.35) and many other apps not on the old market. If I had the chance though, I would have not gotten this phone once again. Hopefully the community will continue to develop and help improve, where as Motorola just gave up on it.

Cliq xt

The cliq xt works fine, however it is stuck on android version 1.5 and will not be upgraded. Also the on/off button being on the side of the phone was not a good place for the button as it would sometimes turn itself on accidentally.

Motorola Cliq XT (2 GB) Cell phone) Not the best.

2

After having at least four cell phones in my lifetime, I have to say this one is the most difficult to use.  Instructions aren't very clear, and, for the price, I have to say it's less than desirable.  I've had Motorola phones in the past, and I never had a problem with them.

Its a great phone

This is a great phone of coarse it does have some bad things about it but is mostly a perfect phone. the only problem i have with it is that it tends to get a little slow the longer you have it. other than that it is a very sleek and fun phone to have it runs on android 1.5 and has swype capabilities. You can surf the web weather it's checking your facebook or myspace or if you just want to watch a video on youtube. it come with a very nice black and purple back. The black is also made out of this rubbery material and feels great to the touch. you can choose many apps from the android market most are very useful and some are also just for fun. The swype keyboard takes some getting used to but once you do you can fly across the full qwerty keyboard no problem. It does tend to freeze up occasionally witch is a problem. The Motorola Cliq Xt also also has a smaller screen witch isnt to sharp but it is still nice and sharp overall i give this product a 5/5

Functional, but not running up-to-date Android

2

My husband and I got our Cliq XTs when we were eligible for an upgrade and thought we'd jump on the touch-screen Web-friendly smart phone bandwagon.  We were pretty excited about the phones... they're integrated with Facebook and Gmail, so you have all of your social contacts at your fingertips, and the apps that are available are pretty fun, especially being new to the whole smartphone game. However, Cliq XT wasn't running the most up-to-date version of Android when we got the phones in May, and T-Mobile indicated that Motorola had promised an end-of-June rollout date for the upgrade.  Sadly, now in November of 2010, we are STILL waiting on the upgrade! For our purposes, the phones are acceptable, and even fun, but there are a lot of apps that we see advertised that will not run on our phones, and that is disappointing. Our service is good, and our phones work most of the time.  Occasionally there will be a lag when we try to answer or switch from program to program, but overall, these are really nice phones...we'd just like for the companies to keep their word about upgrades.

Cliq XT love my phone

5

I have had the cliq xt for 7 months now.  I love my phone. It takes awesome pictures and video it is easy to use and was very easy to set up. It's connected with motoblur which is great for people who do a lot of social networking. Plenty of storage and loud speaker for playing music. It is set up with the android market which has thousands of great apps. The swype text makes text messaging much faster once you get used to it.

NOT THAT GREAT

GOT THE PHONE WAS EXCITED, CHARGED IT FOR 20 HOURS BEFORE FIRST USE,,, THA BATTERY LIFE ON THIS PHONE IS HORRIBLE AND THE SERVICE IS NOT THAT GREAT, LOTS OF DROPPED CALLS AND LOW SIGNAL STRENGTH , GOOD BASIC PHONE FOR THE MONEY BUT DONT EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM IT, DROPPED IT A FEW TIMES AND STILL WORKED SO ITS A STURDY PHONE. ALWAYS LIKED MOTORALA PRODUCTS I STILL THINK THEY MAKE THE BEST PHONES OUT THERE, WITH ALL THE NEW TECHNOLOGY THATS BEEN COMING OUT MOTOROLA HAS STAYED IN THEY CELL PHONE GAME, HAD THE BLACKBERRY WAS ALSO A GOOD PHONE A LITTLE TOO MUCH FOR WHAT I NEEDED IT FOR, THIS PHONE IS JUST ENOUGH FOR ME AND ALTHOUGH DONT HAVE MANY GREAT FEATURES IT DOES SERVE ITS PURPOSE AND THAT IS TO MAKE PHONE CALLS , THATS ALL I NEED A PHONE TO DO IS MAKE AND RECIEVE PHONE CALLS AND THIS PHONE DOES THAT, I WILL PROBABLY UPGRADE PHONES SOON LOOKING AT A FEW GOOD ONES BUT I REALLY DONT NEED ALL THOSE ADDED FEATURES...

I love the cliq xt

I love this phone, I'm not one for technical phones, this is my first one and i got the hang of it quickly, my 5 yr old loves all the apps and games.  The swype function for texting is essential, It makes texting so easy! The only thing that is a little frustrating is that when I talk and my make up rubs off slightly on the phone, because it is a touch screen it just keeps dialing people because it thinks you are touching it.  It doesn't give you a chance to wipe it off, it just keeps dialing.  So you have to shut the screen off even though it is dialing someone and wipe it off, then turn the screen back on and hang up on whoever it was calling.  Then people are calling you back and you have to explain why you "butt-dialed them".  Otherwise this is an awesome phone, so many things you can do with it!!!  Love it!

average performance, some technical issues

3

I bought the Moto Cliq XT for my husband because he needed a smartphone for work and to use the GPS app through the android user interface on the phone. The android part of the phone is great. The phone has some techincal issues though, that we have seem frequently with other motorola phones we have purchased. The phone shuts off randomly by itself. it drops calls randomly with full bars showing, and the phone gets stuck on some screens and has to be reset. It is an annoyance to not have a keyboard of any sort and makes texting while doing other things nearly impossible. It also has an overly sensitive touch screen, and if you hover your finger even an inch from the screen it will make calls and often does things on its own when a finger or object is in close proximity to its screen without actually touching it.  It was cheap though, which was a plus with an android phone. But overall I am just not satisfied with this or anyother motorola phone I have purchased. They all seem to have a lot of technical issues and dont last very long.
