Morningstar Farms Kaffree Roma Review

One of the places we stopped at in Florida was Rutabaga's etc. Natural Food Market (299 S. Croft Ave., Inverness, FL 34453, Ph: 352-344-0096).  This unprepossessing little place is a positive gold mine of good things -- fresh organic produce, vitamins and supplements, assorted raw and unprocessed Florida honies, whole grain breads, and beautiful assorted fresh baked goods, hummus, salads, and "grab 'n' go" prepared meals.  Among the many products available at Rutabaga's was something which I had sampled at the Codacks' breakfast table -- Kaffree Roma, a roasted grain beverage which tastes just like coffee) but is actually better for us than either regular or decaffinated coffee would be.  I'm fussy about stuff like this but I liked it so much that I bought a jar for myself to bring back to Chicago.

STATS:

Kaffree Roma is a carefully crafted blend of roasted barley, malt barley and chicory.  It is like instant coffee which is made to be mixed with boiling water.  A rounded teaspoon of the powder is considered to be a single serving which contains ten calories with zero each total fat and sodium, 20 mg. potassium, two grams total carbs, and zero protein.  Kaffree Roma costs between $8 or $9 a jar and is available at most health food stores.  You can also find better deals on this product by searching for it on the Internet.  (Warning:  Kaffree Roma contains gluten from the barley used in its manufacture.)

TASTE TIP:

Let's be realistic -- this may not be the exact same thing you would pay $4 for at Starbuck's but in its own way it is delicious.  Drink Kaffree Roma just as you would real coffee and add anything to it or with it that you would if you were drinking the real McCoy.
