My husband and I spent a Saturday night at the Monterey Non-Smokers Motel near Old Town, Albuquerque.  After doing some online research and checking rates, this was the motel that fit our needs.  I was looking for a decent-priced motel close to Old Town and with a nightly rate of $68 plus tax, this motel was surprisingly inexpensive.  Other Old Town hotels couldn't be had for less than $150 per night.

I have to admit that it was with trepidation that I booked a room at Monterey Non-Smokers Motel.  Many of the online reviews regarding this hotel were positive but the few negative ones worried me.  I was prepared to spend a night in a dumpy hotel room but was pleasantly surprised when we arrived.  The owner was friendly and informative and the room was clean.  For the price and location, I couldn't have asked for more.

Our room had one queen bed with flowered sheets.  I don't think I've ever been to a motel with flowered sheets, which seemed kind of kitschy and cool.  Our room was small but there was enough room for a desk, table, refrigerator, and room for our luggage.  Parking was right outside of our door and an outdoor swimming pool was just a few steps away (we did not use the pool).

The location of Monterey Non-Smokers Motel is just one block from Old Town and sits right on the infamous old Route 66.  It's also located close to the aquarium, zoo, and botanical gardens and is a short drive to downtown and other major attractions.

On the downside, the area seems a little rundown so we chose not to walk around any of the area outside of Old Town.  We were disappointed to discover upon our arrival that most of Old Town was already closed for the evening, even on a Saturday night.  We were fortunate enough to make it in time for dinner at the famous Church Street Cafe (it was very good!), but the deserted streets of Old Town were a little too eerie for us so we spent the remainder of our night in our motel room.

For the price and location to Old Town, the Monterey Non-Smokers Motel is a great deal.
