I am a return visitor to the Monte Carlo Hotel so had high expectations based on my last visit. August of 2007 finds this hotel completely surrounded by high rise construction projects. We counted 16 cranes working day and night , erecting the framework for the seven, high rise structures about to destroy the beautiful view out our now very dusty windows. Some guests we spoke with were upset with the noise and asked to be moved. We were told the hotel was willing to move people to another of their properties. We didn't try but rather chose to tolerate the noise. What we found more irritating was the fact that the connection between the food court and the casino was blocked off with drape and pole and that too was under construction. The food court was home to Subway and other fast food places common to any mall in America. We had to go to other hotels to capture the charm of eating at nice restaurants, while on vacation. That said, the Monte Carlo features a 4 star chef at a very nice French Restauraunt. The menu posted outside began with a $72.00 entree so we didn't try it. I am an interior designer and have worked on a few hotels. My feeling is the Dynasty that owns the Monte Carlo is treating it like an abandoned child. The bones of this hotel are elegant. It could rise to it's former prestigeous status with a common area makeover, especially the entry on the Strip. It is just plain dirty, from all the construction. The pool is beautiful. The rooms are very nice and beautiful. The mattresses as comfortable as I've ever slept on. I say give it a year and see what happens. I will.
