When we remodeled our bathrooms about 10 years ago, we again turned to Moen for our new faucets. We were replacing the traditional two faucet models with the single center-mounted faucet in the Chateau by Moen line.
This chrome finished single control faucet and drain set features a low profile faucet that is controlled by a single large tear-shaped plastic crystal knob that is easily manipulated. To turn the faucet on the knob is pulled toward you. When the tip of the "tear" is centered the faucet is set to warm. Turning the tear to the left increases the water temperature while turning to the right decreases the temperature. We seem to automatically return the faucet to the warm position whenever we turn the water off.
This fixture has a straight rod push/pull drain control that is also easily operated.
The faucet has an aerated spout that provides a maximum flow of 1.5 gallons/minute. Though the flow can be controlled from the off condition to the maximum flow setting, the design of the control is such that you usually have it completely closed or completely opened to the 1.5 Gallon setting.
Appearance
This faucet set is a modern classic. It has a very low profile and combines both form and function nicely. While handsome it doesn't draw very much attention. The combination of plastic crystal and shiny chrome work well together.
Finish
After 10+ years of use, the chrome finish of the faucet is starting to show some pitting at the points closest to the vanity surface. It's minor, but it is noticeable if you're looking for it. Clearly, the finish is not of the quality of the more expensive Extensa line that we used in our kitchen.
Performance
I am impressed that through all the years that we've had these installed we have yet to experience as much as a leaky faucet. And, the drain control mechanism, often the source of faucet problems, has worked flawlessly as well.
Like most Moen products, it is backed by the manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty. My experience with the Moen Cutomer Service Department has been excellent and supports our decision to spend a little more for Moen fixtures.
My Viewpoint
Chateau by Moen bathroom fixtures are a relatively low cost line as compared to other lines offered by Moen. But for the money ($132), they combine good looks and excellent performance. If not for the minor pitting of the finish I would have rated this fixture 5 stars.
