Modern Family —

So what's "A Mockumentary"?  Presented to the viewing audience in documentary style...it mocks just about everything.  In episode one, we meet 3 families; The Delgado-Pritchett Family, The Dunphy Family and lastly - the strangest gay couple you'll ever find - Cameron & Mitchell.

Ed O'Neill from "Married With Children" fame is back on TV.  It's about time.  Sadly, the "in your face" humor of Married With Children is gone.  Ed plays Jay Pritchett who is married to a hot latino Sofía Vergara (Gloria Delgado-Pritchett) and a pre-made family with child...Manny Delgado played by Rico Rodriguez.  Young Manny doesn't know quite what to think of his step-dad yet...and it shows.

Then there's the Dunphy family, consisting of Claire Dunphy, (Julie Bowen from Boston Legal) her hubby Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) and their two kids Luke & Alex played by Nolan Gould and Ariel Winter.  Alex - the girl - sits in her room & communicates to the world thru texting.  How does she ever meet anyone new?  Phil (the dad) tries to act cool in front of the kids by "rapping" and using over-used, worn out, supposed "hip" phrases.  What a schmuck.

Lastly comes the "odd couple" of Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and his over-weight lover Cameron (Eric Stonestreet).  They have just adopted a baby girl.  And in episode three, Mitchell & Cameron discover Cosco!  I think they bought enough diapers to last this kid a lifetime...along with tons of other stuff they'll need a lifetime to use up.  Funny...in a weird sort of way.

I don't know...  Maybe I'm just getting old.  But, Modern Family doesn't quite "cut it" for me.  Yes, I've watched it.  But, I always find myself channel surfing to see if something better is on.

The laughs come from subtle things. It definitely isn't MWC-style humor but I get it and I like it. I could watch Ed O'Neill sell life insurance. He's that talented. Also a very well-written show. And it isn't in the gutter - at least not yet.

I'm still "up in the air" over it. Sometimes it's funny - sometimes not. Thus the three stars.

Fine review OldHippie ~ I missed this weeks episode and am kicking myself~! It's one of my faves but I can understand how not *everyone* would like it.
