Moby Wrap —
I was given a ring sling when I had my first child. I tried as hard as I could to use it, but just could never get used to the feeling that my son was not securely snuggled up to me. I contantly felt scared that he was going to fall out!
Well, after trying the Moby Wrap with my 3rd child - I can't believe I went so long without knowing about this wrap!
I have a 2 year old daughter, who is very active, so I knew I would need something to keep the baby next to me, while still having 2 hands to tend to my daughter's needs. So I ordered a Moby Wrap in navy blue in my 8th month. The day I received it, I had to try it - but with my big belly I wasn't sure if I could find a way to wrap it so I could try my 2 year old out in it.
Luckily the wrap comes with a very detailed, full color pamphlet that shows step by step how to tie the Moby Wrap in various ways. I was able to get the wrap on, and put my daughter on my back, even with my big baby belly! She's about 30 pounds or so, and I swear, even though I'm only 5'4" and very small framed, it felt like I had hardly any weight on my back. The wrap distributes the weight evenly over both shoulders, your chest and your waist. You can wear the wrap down over your shoulders like a shawl, or fold it up a bit to make it look more like a short sleeved shirt.
The Moby Wrap itself, is a long piece of very soft fabric, with a tag in the middle to help with positioning it properly on yourself to initially tie it on. It's easily machined washed and dried. It's much better than most of the structured baby carriers, as it allows the baby's legs to stay in postitions that don't cause pressure to be put on the hips - something you don't want to happyen. You can also tie it on yourself before leaving the house, so when you get to where you're going, like the store or park, you just have to pop the baby in and go!
After I had my 3rd, I quickly found that I needed the Moby Wrap more than I expected. The day we got home from the hospital, I wrapped the Moby Wrap on and snuggled my newborn son into the 'Hug Hold' position. He absolutely loved it, and so did I!
The Moby Wrap keeps the baby close to you, and very securely positioned. I'm able to wash dishes, do laundry, vaccum, and do general picking up around the house while wearing my now 3 week old son. I can also tend to my 2 year old, getting her snacks, or playing, while wearing the Moby Wrap.
There are also some great videos on sites like youtube that show you how to easily wrap the Moby Wrap around you, how to get your child (infant to toddler) in and out of the wrap, how to tie it on in publc without letting the ends touch the ground, and all the different positions. You can nurse the baby, or even hold twins in it!
I highly recommend the Moby Wrap for any parent, new or experienced. It really is like having an extra pair of hands!
