What are some ways that you can tell if you are a good person?
I believe I am a good person because when something good happens to a family member or a friend, I find myself truly happy for that person. Sometimes it feels like the good thing that happened to them happened to me too. I have not always been like this; there have been times where I would get a little jealous or little envious. I guess that right now I am in a good place in my life and that opens me up to allow more happiness in to my life.
I, of course, can't be objective on the topic of whether I'm "good" or not.
Clearly, I'm not, by most standards, a bad person. I haven't killed anyone, abused anyone's children or pets, willfully gone out of my way to humiliate anyone, committed any major crimes, or attempted to betray my country.
By some people's standards, I'm not exactly a good person, either. I've fallen in love with women I shouldn't have fallen in love with, lost my temper and said scathing things when I shouldn't have, broken quite a few promises, hurt people's feelings needlessly, thought of self before thinking of others, and done quite a few things that would disqualify from me from instant sainthood.
Nevertheless, I have tried to do the right thing as much as possible. I try to be nice and helpful, and even in heated political discussions I try to be polite when I respond to posts which express views that are diametrically opposite to my own.
