I am a Parent of a 8yr old son and a 11 yr old daughter. I feel that homeschooling our children is better then letting the schools. Do to the fact that all the schools are doing now is teaching for the state required test so the schools can look good. The give them busy work the last part of the day and then send hours of homework home for the Parents to teach them. I homeschooling both my children. And yes, they were in public schools and did very well. They were not learning what they needed to know just what the teacher were TOLD to teach to make the schools look good. No i am not a teach… read full review »

Mathnasium provides a custom program based on a scientifically proven assessment.  Kids come to Mathnasium for one hour sessions as many times during the month as they want.  The tutors are amazing!  They make the kids learn and have fun at the same time.  They only teach math so you know they are experts.  I would highly reccomend this… read full review »

I have some medical conditions now that stop me from driving a truck.  So I took the disability income and RAN! (I'm Retired) However; what I'm about to write here, hopefully, will 'shock & aw' most people.  Did you know that less than 10% of all trucks on the road are UNION?  Did you know most of these 'trade schools' last only TWO WEEKS?  Did you know that many trucking companies are now hiring drivers from Bosnia, India, and Mexico?  Some of these drivers are working for the same wages I made in 1985!  — Most OTR Drivers (over-the-road) are… read full review »

I can't say enough good things about Franklin Montessori Preschool.  My son has learned so much.  They follow a diverse curriculum and teach everything from math to zoology.  My son has also started learning sign lanuage and spanish.  He has learned the planets and about reptiles, fish, plants, the human body (heart, lungs stomach, etc).  The teachers are wonderful.  I have recently learned that Montessori schools go to the 3rd grade in some places.  You can believe I will be looking in to that.  I firmly believe that my son's love of school comes from… read full review »

We (my husband, daughter and I) toured MCA last year, looking for a private school for our daughter. We did not like the "vibe" and our daughter did not like the feeling she got from the school one bit. We decided to put her elsewhere. Since then, we've talked to many parents who either had the good foresight not to enroll their children in this school, or who pulled their child out after just one year. One couple (a good Christian family) we talked to who were not impressed with the school and likened it "The Borg" from the Star Trek series. Although this comparison is humorous, it… read full review »

Overall, the site in Lawrence, Kansas has a wonderful staff that takes care of you no matter what.  They're like an extended family.  The Medical Assisting program was wonderful and very informative. — — However, PCI began their Associates in Applied Science Medical Assisting program, it seemed they just through the program together and decided to play it by ear.  An Associates program ought to be well organized and well thought out.  Credits aren't even transferable to any school because it's not an accredited college.  You would have to start from… read full review »

Before anyone puts down homeschooling, they should really look at the family and take a good hard look at public schools today. Both of our daughters have learning disabilities. They were in the public school for many years. The teachers were of little or no help to us or our daughters. We have now been homeschooling for 5 years. I am able to custom their education to each girl. Get them material that really interest them personally. If something does not work well for them, we can change curriculum so they can learn and succeed. They can go at their own pace. They have the love of learning… read full review »

MCA holds the majority of the best memories I have. I wouldnt trade the years I attended it for anything. The faculty is incredible and enriching, the kids are amazing and I made friends I will still have when I'm old and racing wheelchairs with them in the nursing home. I would point anyone looking to attend a private school towards MCA. It will benifit their lives in countless areas.… read full review »

Homeschooling was first brought to my attention by my daughter's nurse. Since early childhood my daughter has had health issues that made attending public school a true hassle. When her nurse questioned had we ever considered homeschooling I immediately went to the library and checked out many books on homeschooling. I also searched the internet for anything associated with homeschooling. I thought it seemed like something interesting and maybe just what we needed to give my daughter the eduation she needed. I found a homeschooling group in my area and called them. I paid the membership fees… read full review »

I do not know about everyone else but I really am digusted everytime I see my children's school menu's.  Hmm let me see you will be having breaded process this, and breaded process that with a smidge of veggie.  They do not even give eggs to kids anymore that isn't extended into some sort of french toast fingers or a burrito style slosh roll.  When I was living in North Carolina they had an elementary school (I can not remember where or who it was) that decided they had enough of the Public schools system menu as well, except they changed it.  They hired a real chef who… read full review »

I just recently moved to Tomball Texas which is a suburb of Houston and the Krimmel Middle school my son attends has laptops for their students. This is the first school around here which is public to try this out and I have to say I have been waiting Years for this to happen. You do not have to pay for them either except to pay a small insurance fee broken into payments. It is awesome and my son loves it. Complete with all safety features and childproofing software I worry no more about supplies except maybe an occasional project etc. There is going to be a change in the high school… read full review »

Homeschooling is more than academic advancement. That happens just because it is so hard to avoid learning in the real world. School is more than academics, too. It's a place where children lose their innocence. A place where they are offered drugs, bullied, passed along year after year whether they comprehend what is being taught or not. A place where very few adults care about them. A place where kids learn that to get ahead, they have to flatter, cheat, lie, etc. — Homeschool so kids learn how to really learn. Homeschool so they don't get shot by a crazy with a gun. Homeschool… read full review »

Homeschooling is a wonderful way to educate children. It is also not the end all to educating children. The fine line that divides academic educator to parent to child can have both positive as well as negative effects. Some children do not respond well to a parent as academic educator. When does the parent end and educator begin? It is not only the children who find the lines blurred. Parents can have difficulty shifting the boundaries of acceptable parental limitations and educator parameters. Homeschooling is not a fit for everyone and should never be thought of as the only method… read full review »
