Quick View: I am always whining about needing variety in my at home workouts. Well, I found a great strengthening and toning DVD that gives me endless variety and never gives me the same workout twice. This is quite possibly one of the most innovative workout DVDs out there. And it's not complicated or confusing in the least!

About Minna Lessig - Total Body Toning - 1 Minute Workout

This DVD is called "1 Minute Workout" because each segment is one minute long. Here's the scoop. The DVD has over 100 exercise segments on it and three random warm ups and cool downs. There are two intensities for beginners and those more advanced.

You choose your intensity level, then you choose whether you want to work your upper or lower body, your abs, or your whole body. Then pick the number of minutes you want to workout. You can go as little as four or eight and as high as well over an hour. That's it. The DVD will program however many segments you need to make your workout the length you chose. Because it's random and there are so many one minute segments, chances of getting the same workout twice are extremely slim.

Pick a warm up and you will get one of the three but no choice of which one. Then launch into the workout. Each segment is a minute and very effective. You will need light weights and a set of slightly heavier weights. I suggest two and five pound for beginners and four and 10 pounds for those stronger. I use two and five pound weights and sometimes use the five pound weights during a light weight exercise depending on what it is.

None of the exercises are new age or complicated. They are very traditional with squats, lunges, butterflies, kick backs, and many more that you probably have done or at least seen done lots of times. Because each segment is only a minute, even if you hate a particular exercise, you can deal for 60 seconds.

The only thing is that, because the segments are random, you may end one sitting down and the next one starts standing up. Get ready to hustle your butt and get up or get down on the mat to do the segments. Minna is very good at showing each exercise and at reminding you of form. She also gives modifications.

I LOVE this DVD! I never know what's next and I truly enjoy the workout because it's straightforward, tried and true moves that get results and have been getting results for years. I love that I can program how long I want to workout and what parts of my body. I love that the segments are never the same. That is not to say I never did the same segment but never in the same order. This is great for the muscles because they become used to certain routines and the workout becomes less effective. With Minna Lessig - Total Body Toning - 1 Minute Workout, you're constantly surprising the muscles.

This is my favorite strengthening and toning DVD. I use it a lot and it's always fun to see what segments I will get. This is NOT aerobic exercise although your heart rate will rise. You need to do aerobic exercise as well seperately.

But if you want ONE DVD to tone and strengthen your whole body and want control over the length of time you workout, this DVD is a great one for you. If you like variety in your workouts but nothing fancy and hard to learn, buy this. It's one of the best out there and I have tried them all it seems!

Remember to cool down after. You will get one of three cool downs, all very effective.

My Viewpoint

Minna Lessig - Total Body Toning - 1 Minute Workout
is really an amazing DVD. It's very easy to program and it's fun to see what segment comes after the previous one. You do sometimes have to hustle to stand up or sit down but that's no biggie. Minna knows her stuff and she doesn't make you do crazy things to get toned. 5 stars and highly recommended!

I'm about to review Wii Fit. A whole exercise routine and fitness tracker on one DVD with a balance board. Excellent! And fun too. I have a million VHS workouts. I don't know what to do with them. I do have a VCR but I have replaced most that I liked with the DVD versions. I should give them away or something. Someone out there would probably love to have them.

Richard Simmons has a nice workout for people who need a less crazy type of workout and you can do it seated or not. Fit Over 40 is the name of another workout that is very gentle but works the body without craziness. There are some yoga workouts specifically for ailments like back issues, arthritis, and just for those who are not flexible but want to work the body in a gentle way. And as always, Tai Chi is the best workout for anyone with any sort of limitations. It is very slow and gentle but effective!

Yeo, mixing things up surprises the muscles and never allows them to get used to your workout. Man, I wish someone would exercise for me! lol.

Thanks, Patty. If you could let me know some titles that would be good. I can do a gentle routine on a mat but due to limitations, I can no longer twist like a pretzel. : )

kid-kansas wrote on May 11, 2008 at 9:47PM

I always heard that many small routines were better because it gave variety. This sounds like it is tuned to that theory, good luck with it! ;)

I don't think this DVD would be a good one for those challenged, etc. because you are on the floor on a mat rather than in a chair. However, I do have some workouts that can be done totally seated in a chair which would be great for those with disabilities or older people. There are several workouts made specifically for those who want to exercise seated for whatever reason as well. This one has you doing push ups, abs work, and hydrants, none of which are easy for anyone!

It would be great for you because you can start at just a few minutes and build up. Plus you are strong and can handle these exercises. I'll let you borrow the DVD and see if you like it!

Are you going to be my personal trainer? I could use one! See ya at 11 a.m. and bring the vitamin water please. :) I do know wrestling holds but no one will let me put them on them. Sheesh. Thanks for stopping by. I thought you disappeared!

I am the worst when it comes to getting bored quickly. This DVD isn't super *fun* but at least it mixes things up and I never do the same routine twice. It helps keep me on my toes - literally!

LadyMagic wrote on May 11, 2008 at 7:42PM

Great review, Patty! Do you think the sit down exercises would be good for the physically challenged and elderly?

LaurieM wrote on May 11, 2008 at 12:03PM

This sounds like something I could actually handle without passing out. lol Great review!

williampinn wrote on May 11, 2008 at 1:27AM

Why do you need this Minna Lessig when you got me over here? lol. Seriously, you could probably teach her a thing or two about fitness, or at least a few wrestling holds (wink). Glad you enjoy the DVD, and your review is certainly a great shout-out for it!

LisaCarey wrote on May 11, 2008 at 12:17AM

wonderful review and the lack of variety is a major factor in why people don't continue with their exercise routines.
