Most HelpfulOur home is a paradise because of the fact that we have mini-dachshunds. It started out 12 years ago. Our daughter mentioned, only in passing, how sweet little dogs could be. Her new husband searched high and low and surprised her with Clifford, a 4 month old mini-doxie. Within 2 weeks, they had to go...

Most HelpfulI've owned dogs my entire life, and as a breed, the dachshund is by far my favorite. They are loyal, devoted companions, cheerful, and always game for whatever activity I dream up, including travel.
Mine is a bit fussy about who becomes his "friend" and prefers people to stay back until he is ready to make up to them. This is not a con, I prefer it. My dog is a cuddler, and loves a nice long snuggly nap- under the covers of course!!
I have had only three years experience with this breed, however, I have spent a great deal of time with both a female and male Dachshund. I think they are different in some ways in the way that they interact with humans.
The female seems to be easier to train and is really more loving. Loves to sit on my lap any time. And would rather do that then anything else.
The male will sit on my lap and cuddle but usually for short periods of time. He would rather be playing with another dog or outside playing. However, about 9pm each and every night the male dachshund then is ready to spend more time on...

Last summer my son bought himself a miniature dachshund as a graduation gift. As I am a teacher and stay at home during the summer, I was elected to dog sit, train, snuggle with, clean up after, and laugh out loud at our adorable Riley. We had a fabulous summer until my son moved into an apartment and took Riley with him. Fortunately for us, the dachshund breed has an annoying habit of barking ferociously. Riley barked himself right out of the apartment and back with...

He was a little hard to house train, and he still pees in the house every now and then but I wouldn't trade him for anything. He's the best dog ever. a great companion, he doesn't leave my side. He's not really a big barker, only if someone new comes over or he gets really excited. He's a cuddler and a lap dog, with very expressive eyes. He can be very stubborn at times, but then again, so can I!
We have 3 Doxies. Our first one was Princess. We've had her for 7yrs and she is the most spoiled out of our other 2.Our second one was Rocky,we've had him for 6yrs.He is soo goofy,we call him our doofus. He runs and slips and slides everywhere and falls asleep standing up! Weirdo! Our third is Lily, she is our youngest at just 1yr old and the baby of Princess and Rocky.Princess has had many litters and now is "retired" from it.They have all gone to good homes. Each person that we do keep int ouch with has said how happy they are with their Doxies. They are soo smart and easy to train.Great with kids...
read full review »That's a dachsund for you. I have 2 miniature dachsunds and in my view, they're a great pet. One of the surpises for most people is that long-haired dachsunds are low shed dogs (sounds a bit like a pun doesn't it?) - I mean they don't shed much hair around the house. My miniatures are loving dogs who want attention most of the time. They are truly lap dogs.
My reason for giving miniature dachsunds a 4 instead of a 5 is that they can be snippy with small children unless they've been raised together. They do require someone with a lot of patience as they frequently show a stubborn streak. ...
