In my opinion these slightly older Miele vacuums are the best vacuums ever made! Much more substantial than the newer light weight ones Miele makes. This vacuum is a totally sealed HEPA ready vacuum which is great for those of us with allergies and / or pets. You also have the option of getting a charcoal Air Filter that filters out any bad odors that you vacuum up. Your choice between the HEPA and the Charcoal filter. Both work very well. These vacuums are workhorses that are made to last for 20 years unlike most products today that are designed to last a few years before having to buy a new one. Plus it is the absolute best at vacumming with little effort. These pluses make the price a bargain even though it is quite expensive. In this vacuums case....you get what you pay for. Better to buy 1 vacuum lasting 20 years while giving superior service than many cheaper vacuums doing a sub par job and needing replacing every year or two.

The Miele S514 Bagged Canister Vacuum is a solid vacuum.  My wife and I purchased it during the first year of our marriage, and eight and a half years later we are still using it.  I know that there are probably better vacuums for suction and overall performance, but we are really happy with it!  Compared to other brands, it was actually affordable, and it has great suction for vacuuming a house.  It also handles both wet and dry messes really well, although I would recommend that you empty the bag right away if you vacuum any food at all (otherwise it will spoil and give off a bad odor).  It has a wide range of tools/add ons to reach any hard-to-reach location, too.  Probably the only drawback is that it can be difficult to sometimes find the replacement bags at a major store.  If you need a vacuum that you will own for probably the rest of your life, then I  heartily recommend this vacuum for both its price and peformance.

I love my Miele vacuum! I replaced a messy Rainbow system with this Miele bagged canister vaccum and I prefer this over the Rainbow system any day.  It is lightweight to use and the wheels turn so easily.  I love the Hepa filter system and it never smells. I saw a significant difference in the level of cleanliness after purchasing this unit. It cleans so easily and well.  I have the power head for the unit and it really picks up the ground in dirt from your carpets.  I also have the hard floor head and I have used this on my woodfloors and tile to pick up dirt, sand and dust bunnies as well as food from my small children.  The small attachments are wonderful for cleaning small tight spaces or hard to reach places... I have cleaned ceiling fans, screened in porches as well as car upholstery and carpets I also love that these attachment are stored in a small compartment on the unit so they are easily accessible. I know these units are expensive but  I have had mine for 5 years and it is well worth the money.

I own the red and black Meile S514 vacuum cleaner for about 2 years now.  I have to say this machine really holds up well.  I have 2 dogs and live in a rural area.  It has no problem picking up the dirt. I am also a person who has year round indoor/outdoor allergies and the specifics on this machine are great for helping me reduce my allergy symptoms. - he **Super Air Clean Filter** is electrostatically charged to retain microscopic particles. It traps 99.95% of particles down to 0.5 microns and 94% of particles down to 0.3 microns. The Active HEPA filter is optional and removes 99.97% of all particles as small as 0.3 microns. - The **Sealed System** construction of the canister keeps all the dust inside, providing maximum protection for indoor air quality. It was definetly worth the price I paid.  I am sure this one will last many years to come, but I would have no problem replacing with another Meile should something happen to this one!
