Microwave Survey Results - See what Viewpoints members really think about their microwaves
It can be really hard shopping for a new microwave. Everything seems questionable. "Is the sales guy actually helping me, or is he just trying to make a sale?" "Is this microwave really worth spending that much money?" "I love the features this microwave has - but how long will it last?"
So to help make the process a little bit easier, we sent out a survey asking Viewpoints members to rate their own microwave. Over 8,000 people responded to tell us what they really think about their microwave.
Members rated their microwave on a scale from 1-5, with 1 being "very satisfied" and 5 being "very dissatisfied," on the following criteria:
- Overall performance
- Value
- Reliability/Durability
- Features/Technology
- Style

Overall Performance
On the whole, people are pretty happy with their microwave. 84% of respondents said they were satisfied with the overall performance of their microwave.
Moreover, 86% of people said they would recommend their microwave to a friend.
Sizzling - Panasonic
"I wouldn't do without this microwave for all the tea in China - it's marvelous!"
Lukewarm - GE
"A stable, above the stove microwave. No bells or whistles involved. Turn it on and it works..."
Out in the Cold - Oster
"Not particularly pleased and would like to replace with better model."
Value
When it came to value, 84% of respondents said they were satisfied. 46% of these people said they were very satisfied with the value of their microwave.
Sizzling - Panasonic
"Reasonably priced, works well and has a lot of value for the money."
Lukewarm - Emerson
"I guess you get what you pay for- I didn't pay all that much for it and I guess that is what I got ...not all that much!"
Out in the Cold - Magic Chef
"Many features did not work after only a few months."
Reliability & Durability
Respondents who purchased their microwave more than 10 years ago were just as satisfied with reliability and durability as those who purchased their microwave less than a year ago.
Sizzling - Frigidaire
"It has every setting you can think of and has never had to be serviced or fixed."
Lukewarm - GE
"My GE microwave is over 27years old - it is a workhorse. They just don't make them like they used to!"
Out in the Cold - Magic Chef
"I am not happy with this microwave at all and have been shopping around for a new one."
Features & Technology
78% of respondents said they were satisfied with the features and technology of their microwave. But only 41% of these people said they were very satisfied.
Sizzling - Whirlpool
"This is an 'over the stove' type microwave/convection oven that I really enjoy. It does everything I need, and it's defrost function actually works without cooking my food!"
Lukewarm - Sharp
"I don't know how to use it very well - its 'special features' are too complicated."
Out in the Cold - Oster
"It does not heat food fast enough."
Style
People who bought their microwave less than a year ago were a lot more satisfied with the style of their microwave than those who purchased five or more years ago.
Sizzling - Frigidaire
"Frigidaire is a very good name. Dependable, affordable and looks good. It even comes in matching colors!"
Lukewarm - Sharp
"There's nothing special about my microwave. It works."
Out in the Cold - Oster
"It's the first microwave I ever owned. It was a gift from my Dad and it is pink...circa 1988. It's more of a novelty item in my kitchen."
