Microsoft - Zune (80GB) Media Player Review Summary

If you’re looking for an alternative to the Apple iPod, then you might consider the Microsoft Zune media player. The Microsoft Zune has a larger screen than an iPod and Zune owners - especially those fond of watching videos and movies or showing off their pictures - love both features. "The menu is user-friendly to navigate...[and] the Zune can share tracks and photos with other Zune users using wireless capabilities," says one reviewer. The Zune 80 - as the 80GB version of the player is called - can hold up to 20,000 songs, 25,000 pictures or 250 hours of video. That's a lot of portable entertainment! Microsoft "gives you more bang for your buck" with the Zune, according to the community. Read more Zune reviews and compare them to the other MP3 Players too.

Before I give my review of the Zune 80GB Digitial Media Player, I should say up front that I have always been averse to joining the iPod craze.  Perhaps its the non-conformist gene in me, but the anointed coolness of the iPod franchise has always seemed to cause Apple to take for granted its sales...

When I first met my Zune, I was overjoyed.  I loved it more than any other gadget I had ever known.  It was easy to use, had cool features that the iPod never considered,  and an excellent battery life.  Plus, the satisfaction of being able to click the navigation buttons brought me back to... review »

My dad and my sister both own iPods. I desperately wanted one of my own, until I saw the the newest product on the market at the time: the Microsoft Zune.

"Holy cow, look at that screen," I thought. As a photographer and budding home video editor, it definitely peaked my interest. Not to mention that I have a broad musical field that I listen to, so the fact that it toted 30gb of space, it seemed this was the mp3 player for me.

At the time, Zune was working out a few little bugs in it's intial installation, but the customer service people were very helpful and it was worth the wait. Once I got everything...

I recieved my Zune for Christmas from my husband. I only have one word to describe it

LOVEIT!!!!

I had heard horror stories about the Zune and how you could not transfer music and video files to it, well I have not had one problem.

I love how my Zune has many different search options to find the music I want to listain to.

The batter life is great, I believe I am getting like 24 hours of life maybe more. I have not really charged it all that much, but I have used it alot.

The earphones are pretty good, but I am saving up for better ones Like Bose but that is because I love Bose Speakers.

Thank...

Microsoft's been down the music player road before but took a hideous wrong turn. People who followed Microsoft met BadResults(tm) when their online web site went belly up and they couldn't buy new media. Stale content was the tip of the iceberg since Microsoft's poorly thought out rights scheme requires an online site server to periodically recertify content.

The Zune is a new take with a new online content portal, but similar badly thought out schemes. DRM content is the first humongous GOTCHA when dealing with Microsoft's online presence. Bad usability is the next --- the thing is meant to

I like this product (Zune)more than any other MP3 player I have had before. Right now I have about 150 songs and maybe 35 movies and TV shows, and I hvae only used about 6 1/2 gbs because of the compression of the Mp4. I also really like this product because it comes with the premium headset. They really do sound good! It actually pleased me, because they are not the cheap junk you usually get with MP3 players.

It is very easy to get the song/movies on the Zune once you add the folders you want the software to search. It also does not take up tons of room on your computer, either (hello Ipod/Itunes!!)....

The Microsoft Zune 80GB media player is expensive, yes.  Is bigger than the Ipod, yes.  Is made by The Evil Empire, yes.  (I know, there are lots of Evil Empires.  I'm talking about the one in Redmond.)  But there are a lot of things to recommend this player over the Ipod:

- It sounds great, better than an Ipod in my opinion, and I have pretty finely-tuned ears.
- Its N-S-E-W nav pad is easier to operate quickly than Ipod's wheel, particularly when you are on the run and not looking at the device while trying to operate things like volume
- The video screen is larger, at 3.5", than any Ipod model,...

I purchased the Microsoft Zune 80 GB Black MP3 Player a year and a half ago.  I weighed the pros and cons and being that I have major issues with Apple since I have a PC, and having done some research on the Zune, I decided to buy one.  Sadly, I've been rather disappointed in my purchase.  You don't have the pinwheel like the iPod does, so you have to adjust to a directional pad that looks like one button and can be a bit sensitive.  To reset it, there's no easy button, you have to hold down one of the two side buttons and up on the directional pad.  That's a bit much to reset the device if...

This mp3 video player is of a great value. The brown version is at $149.98 and that is considerably comparble to other video players that has its similar functions. This is unlike any player i have seen. Any teen would love this for the holidays.Other than that the hard shutdown is a bit annoying as a result it has to keep building its libary(like the sansa),inculding the problem of a short battery life if not handled correctly, an inexperinced user may kill the       rechargeble battery  quickly which is by the way Lithum Ion. It can be addictive and this does not help for when you have... review »

The zune is the best mp3 player on the market today when you look at what you can do with it. this player you can put your music that you have on your computer with the program that you have. There id one thing that I do'nt like about the zune is that the memory is not expandable on the bigger modles and that you have only a few color and accessior items for the zune.

I love music and the zune provides a great amount of space for any types of videos and mp3s that I wish to listen to on the go.

Pros:
Duration of the battery (very good)
Charge takes 2-3 hrs
Design is amazing
Good quality
My favorite was the headphones

Cons: Software on the PC is horrible

My son wanted an MP3 for Christmas and due to advertising and their commonality, of course the first thing everyone recommended was IPOD, but then a person whom I work with and who deals with electronics vendors daily, pointed out that other companies have great quality products, at lesser cost, due to lesser advertising budgets....They specifically recommended the Zune and I was able to purchase a 30 gig for less money than the 8 gig IPOD, and my son was thrilled, because he has room for his entire musical library collection, plus space left over for video or more music.  I did purchase a heavy...

I picked up a refurbished Zune 30 not long ago when I saw one for a great price.  It was totally worth it.  I knew I needed something with a screen, because I loathe the 'what the heck is playing' I get using my wife's 1 GB Ipod Shuffle.  Sometimes it would wander off and start playing, well, who knows what, which, to be blunt, stinks when you're trying to listen to a book!  I'm not a fan of the Ipod's appearance and love the black with blue accent of the sturdy Microsoft Zune.  30 GB is quite a bit of storage, although I already find myself eyeing the 80 GB (with a bigger screen!).  Still,...
