I just got a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2.0  Model 1008 and couldn't be happier.  The base can connect to your computer with either a USB or PS2 connector. That can come in handy if you already have several USB type connections or if your keyboard is a PS2 connection.  It has an arched shape which provides support for the hand in a comfortable position.  The ambidextrous design works great for rightys or leftys.  I am a righty but the mouse fits just as well in my left hand.  The scrolling wheel is super quiet and can also be used to toggle between open windows.  You need to go online to download software to get the mouse to do this but it only takes a few minutes.  Go to microsoft.com and under the All Products category choose Mouse and Keyboard products.  On the left side of the screen click on Software downloads and follow the instruction from there.   I have had no issues with connectivity or lag time.  I would definitely purchase this product again!
