Bottom-Line: Overall Vista Home Premium is about as fast as the OS it replaced, and just as stable. — I recently bought a Dell XPS One PC and it shipped with Windows Vista Home Premium.  Rather than replace it with Vista Business or Ultimate, or better still Windows XP Professional, I… read full review »

I'm what most people would call a "Techie."  I have a BS in Computer and Information Science.  I worked in PC support at a major company for 2 years.  I help hundreds of people through the transition from Windows 98 & Windows NT to Windows 2000 and Windows XP when they came out.   But even with experience, I was still hesitant to order my new PC with Windows Vista because of all of the bad press the OS (operating system)received.  Never the less I swallowed my fears and got the new PC only two months after Vista was launched.  Even though I know my way… read full review »

First off let me start by saying I am a seasoned techie and I have 10+ years of troubleshooting Windows operating systems. That being said, Windows Vista Home Premium is simply awful, ranking up there with the now notoriously bad ME operating system. Unfortunately Vista came installed on my new notebook, which is a nice notebook, given the price, and within 10 minutes of having it up and running for the first time, a new driver from windows update crashed my video, making the system practically useless. The new driver could not be uninstalled, nor could it be rolled back to the previous… read full review »

I don't understand.  Windows XP was a perfectly reasonable operating system.  I know it had it's weaknesses, but I much prefer it over this updated version.  —  I feel the upgraded security that Vista is trying to provide would be provided by keeping up-to-date virus blockers and security programs.  Or find out what it is that Mac and Linux have on keeping out viruses (gasp). — There is some getting used to with the tabs and such provided, but that is not my real complaint, as I don't mind adjusting to change if it is for the better.  However, I am… read full review »

The operating system is generally improvement. The user interface is nicer in its aesthetics and ease to use. — — But! — — I don't know what the issue is but there is major compatibility and and programming issues. The most frequent problem is the random blue screen and restart. My computer is not as bad as others were. My problems were predictable. I would just never completely shut it down unless I had to because on restart it would blue screen 2-3 times before it would load. Another person I know tried to run the OS with AOL and apparently they are not too… read full review »

Although I love the features of Windows Vista, I really wish they would get all the kinks out, I have alot of problems with it saying that I can performe the action that I am trying to do becasue it says I am not a Administrator, but the proble is that I am the Administrator! I have called Hp , since it was preinstalled on my PC and was on the phone with them well over an hour, but to no avil.  Also, things just seem to disapear off of my desktop from time to time, finding a good firewall has been nothing short of a joke.  On the plus side , I love the Windows Sidebar and the ways… read full review »

Vista is worse than Windows ME. Compatability is a huge problem. Looks cool, but I'd rather have function than a pretty background. It has so many glitches if I had a choice I'd switch back to XP in a second. After two weeks of having Vista my thumbnails blacked out and I stil can't use my 'new, pretty' background. Microsoft knows of this glitch and many more and aren't even planning on making a… read full review »

Alright, for the longest time, I have always given Vista alot of mouth and never gave it a try, however with the purchase of my new Dell, I decided for $30, lets give it a try.  And what a try its been.  I absolutely love this OS, better than the version of Basic on my desktop.  Everything Basic lacks, Premium flat out improves upon a hundred times better.  The graphics with Premium are absolutely gorgeous and running Stardock LoginVista on it, I'm able to load my favorite photos as a login screen (I'm aware you can do this with XP, just different version of Login for… read full review »

Windows Vista Home Premium is Bill Gate's latest foray into your home.  Centered around the Windows Media Center, Microsoft really wants to integrate your entire entertainment center in your home.  I haven't had a chance to do that, although I have seen many interesting things done with this version of Vista. — — I've even seen it fulfilling several functions on several rigs.  One serious machine (actually doing a dual-monitor setup), one above average home PC, and a run of the Mill Dell Laptop.  I have even had the unfortunate chance to see it run on an… read full review »

I got Windows Vista Home premium installed when i got my new PC built.  I have had no problems running any applications or games, despite what I have read in other places.  It may be true that Windows Vista is a bit slower on games the XP, but my new computer is so much faster than my old one that I don't notice it personally. There have been some problems with the activations system that required extensive troubleshooting and hours of searching Microsoft support, but I have been able to fix anything that comes up.  I have had the computer with Vista almost 3… read full review »

I recently purchased a new laptop computer which was pre-loaded with windows vista home version.  I have spent hours upon hours with online support only to learn that the software is incompatible with just about every accessory I have.  After hours of trouble-shooting, I was finally able to successfully add my color printer, which is only one year old.  In order to add the printer, I had to go to a website and download an additional driver.  I have a new blackberry phone.  I am unable to utilize the bluetooth option due once again to the incompatibility of the phone's… read full review »

Vista came pre-loaded on our new pc.  Always ready for an improvement, we thought this might be great.  We were soon disappointed.  There are many compatibility issues with Vista and other software.  Our daughter cannot even use her mp3 player through this machine.  We have written Microsoft for suggestions on having Vista let her use her software that came with the mp3 player - and no, they have not bothered to respond.  It is tedious having to correct Microsoft's mistakes by constantly installing fixes to their errors.  Parental controls do not have any… read full review »

I have been using Windows Vista for 7 months now. I love the quality of the upgrades from windows XP. While it is quite different, it isn't so much so that it takes an expert to learn to use it. The users manual is detailed and to the point, very thorough. It offers so much more options than XP, and the colors are richer and the graphics are awesome. — The biggest drawbacks I have seen with it are that it asks you to confirm everything, which can be annoying at times, and the biggest problem is that most programs are not compatable with it yet.  For example, my computer came with… read full review »
