Microsoft Vista Home Premium —

Alright, for the longest time, I have always given Vista alot of mouth and never gave it a try, however with the purchase of my new Dell, I decided for $30, lets give it a try.  And what a try its been.  I absolutely love this OS, better than the version of Basic on my desktop.  Everything Basic lacks, Premium flat out improves upon a hundred times better.  The graphics with Premium are absolutely gorgeous and running Stardock LoginVista on it, I'm able to load my favorite photos as a login screen (I'm aware you can do this with XP, just different version of Login for XP).

As someone who handles alot of photos and does freelance photography, Windows Media Center in Home Premium is a vast improvement over Windows XP Media Center 2005 that had a hideous history crashing on the machines I've used it on and seen on friends computers.

The only real pet peeve I've had with Vista in general was with a HP printer that HP for some odd reason on a brand new, 'top of the line' photo printer, decided to not make drivers for Vista Basic or Premium that would actually work.  Not a happy experience considering the down time that cost.  Sad thing is, a $80 Epson printer from Staples did better than that, so when it comes to buying printers for Vista to cut to the chase, be carefull what printer you buy when you are running any version of Vista.  If its not certified for Vista, find out and make certain you don't end up with a useless piece of hardware becuase there are no drivers for Vista that the company has released, or if they are released, they actually work.  Most new printers and hardware don't have this issue, however, don't go on the assumption that all new hardware will have drivers for Vista.  Better safe than expensively sorry.  This goes for any hardware or accessory on the market.

Otherwise, no problems with Premium to-date.  Its a great OS, give it a fair chance to work for you.  Its a huge change from XP, and lets be honest, XP was a great OS and did a great job, however, view it this way, its either Vista or a Mac for the next generation of computers and software, and personally, I'll take Vista long before I'll take a Mac.
