First off let me start by saying I am a seasoned techie and I have 10+ years of troubleshooting Windows operating systems. That being said, Windows Vista Home Premium is simply awful, ranking up there with the now notoriously bad ME operating system. Unfortunately Vista came installed on my new notebook, which is a nice notebook, given the price, and within 10 minutes of having it up and running for the first time, a new driver from windows update crashed my video, making the system practically useless. The new driver could not be uninstalled, nor could it be rolled back to the previous stable version. Ultimately I was forced to conduct a full destructive format. That's less than an spectacular first impression. After finally formatting the drive, and having everything seemingly stable, I began to notice a trend. Lots of programs that worked fine with XP, simply wouldn't work on Vista. And then there's the fact that you have to aprove every little change. While I'm sure most of the bugs within this sytem will be fixed with the introduction of a service pack or two or three, depending on just how buggy it is, I doubt the biggest problem with the OS will be fixed. It's wasteful use of RAM. I think Windows recommends 512 MB RAM minimum for installing and running this OS. Considering Microsoft's operating systems are notorious memory hogs, it's usually a wise idea to double the amount recommended, but in this case, I'd racommend no less than 2 GB RAM to run Vista, as it is by and far the most memory intensive system that I've ever used! In short, it might be a decent OS after a service pack or two, but for now if you can, avoid this OS like the plague and stick to XP!

Thanks for checking in. Nice to hear a techie say that this system is a mess. That's what I've been thinking too.
