Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 Review Summary

The community is split on Microsoft’s newest Internet browser Internet Explorer Version 7.0. While one reviewer praised Internet Explorer 7.0, stating “I have to say there is big difference from the old models.” However most reviews seem to fall along the lines of this statement, “If you're wondering if you should use Windows Internet Explorer 7.0, then I would suggest using something else- preferably Mozilla Firefox.” While Internet Explorer 7.0 does offer a plethora of new features including greatly enhanced security, much improved multimedia features, and (finally) tabbed browsing, they come with a steeper learning curve than most of our community was willing navigate. Nonetheless, Internet Explorer 7.0 has come of age and is greatly improved over prior versions. Read what our community has to say about this product as well as Mozilla Firefox 2.0.

I remember Microsoft's first iteration of Internet Explorer released in the mid-1990's; the interface was clunky, slow, ugly, and not very user friendly. That earlier release was based upon the Mosaic web browser developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications' (NCSA) at the University...

Hi, Everybody!

I realize that the world owes a lot to Microsoft.  The problem is that Microsoft realizes this too and has finally reached a plateau of sheer corporate arrogance which is equalled only by Commonwealth Edison.  Your provider of electric power doesn't have to worry about what you think. ...

If you're wondering if you should use Windows Internet Explorer 7.0, then I would suggest using something else- preferably Mozilla Firefox. There are so many problems I don't know where to begin.

Let's start off with the browser itself. It is unbelievably slow! It takes almost 2 minutes to get from Point A, to Point B, and it doesn't matter what kind of internet service you have! With the browser being slow, evidently, it will slow up your computer.

The interface may look nice, but don't let that fool you! It is quite often confusing, and no one needs that!

The next thing is, once I had updated to...

I like things that are astheically pleasing.  Pretty stuff.  However, the technology's first goal should be FUNCTIONALITY first.  Then we can make it look good, IF we can.  Explorer 7 adds tabbed browsing, however, it also incorporates a load of add-ons.  Fortunately, you can manage these add ons, but you'll find that you can't do much with these add ons disabled.  These add ons, in turn, make it tremendously slow.  Firefox is simple.  It has the tabbed browsing, but few gadgets.  AND you can customize the look of it.  I don't really like Firefox's page presentation.  But that's only...

I did not like this product, It is very slow. It takes forever for it to connect to something, to load something, and it needs all these specific plug-ins to make silly little things work. They sure didn't make it any safer. You still get tons of viruses, spyware, popups, etc. I will never use this product again. One reason I won't use it is because I have a mac now and it has safari which is fantastic!! GO APPLE.!!!

E7 is a joke. I recommend anyone who has a real network with real applications that have to actually perform for mission critical reasons avoid IE7 at all cost. the thing is full of flaky bugs, and is so imbedded into the OS that it makes it flake out as well. I dont care what anyone from Microsoft says, web browsers are supposed to be light weight and they for sure arent supposed to be so deeply embedded into the OS that you cant remove them or remove updated version to them. Microsux has had this issue forever and they didnt even build the first releases of IE anyway so they probably dont even... review »

To put this in few words: If your machine can handle it, you will like it.

Internet explorer 7 adds a lot of great features (most of them, already seen in other browsers, though) that will give you a new experience at browsing. On the other hand, if your machine is not suited for it (and most probably it wont) get ready for a new experience at slugishness.
With new features such as tabbed browsing, a new, fresher visual style and shortcuts such as the one that let's you clean all your private data with a single click, Internet Explorer 7 is a great innovation over it's previous version.
Sadly, resource...

Internet Explorer 7 was a long time coming. It took another company to force Microsoft to finally improve on old IE6. If you've used Mozilla's Firefox browser, you'll know the interface. It is extremely similar. Tabbed browsing, and many add-ons are available in this browser. In Vista, IE7 also offers protected mode, which is nice for added security, but also disables useful pieces of the browsers activeX, which disables many apps, ie Citrix Web Client. Overall, IE7 is a VAST improvement over 6, but still Firefox is still more secure. I would recommend IE7 to another admin in a corporate environment,... review »

Microsoft  has came through again to make a good product even better with the release Internet Explorer (I.E.) 7.0.  I begin using IE7 late in the Beta testing and liked it from the beginning.  Although it was not perfect (nor is it now) but Microsoft responded to the bugs and fixed them and released a very solid product when it was released to the public.  This newest IE product has answered a lot of past security issues and made the product much more reliable and more secure.

This is a very solid product and I recommend everyone to try it if you haven't already.

Microsoft threw this together to compete with Firefox and tried to copy the innovative Firefox features, but they fell far short.  Firefox is far more customizable with thousands of add-ins that YOU get to choose to improve your browsing experience - not the add-ins Microsoft thinks you need.  If I have to use a Microsoft browser I will stick to IE6 because 7 is so bad.  I work as a computer repair tech and I have shown dozens of people how to remove IE7 and go back to 6.

Internet explorer 7 is a great program.  The main feature that makes it great is the ability to use tabs.  The tabs are a great feature and allows for less clutter.

Some of the cons that I have heard include the fact that it's supposedly not secure.  So far, I haven't seen any major problem with mine.  My brother constantly has pop-ups and hijack attempts.

Overall, I use it and continue to use it (until IE 8 comes out!)

Explorer 7.0 is a much better version than 6.  Version 6 had too many constant vulnerabilities.  I love the quick delete and cleanup function in the Tools - Internet Options menu.  Gives me the ability to really cleanup cookies, cache, history, unwanted stuff lying around on the hard drive, all from the click of one button.  Plus the ability to quickly integrate some of the latest toolbars, which often gave Version 6 problems.

I used to like NNetscape better than Internet Explorer, until IE 5... Now I like IE better. The only options I wish they had improved are the printing... It seems that there are better options but the default options are terrible in my opinion... I don't want to have to do a preview EVERY time I print a page to make sure I do not require a magnifying glass to read it...

I dispise Microsoft internet explorer. All of their improvements are their attempts to make explorer to preform smoother like Firefox already does, which you can get free with many many many add ons that make the internet easier to navigate and fun. I hate Internet explorer for all of it's attempts to mirror everything that the wonderfull firefox already does.
