Since we were just discussing the Microplane Coarse Grater, the Microplane Grater Attachment is an excellent accessory to go along with your new purchase.

Remember how we were discussing how sharp this grater is and how you really have to be careful when using it?

Well the Microplane Grater Attachment is ideal at providing you with a good degree of safety while using the Microplane Coarse Grater or any of the other graters in the Home Series.

What is it?

Quite simply, its a plastic slide chute that fits over the grater and can be run up and down the cutting surface.  A plastic pusher is inserted into the chute once an ingredient is dropped into the roughly 2" compartment.  When grating smaller ingredients it keeps your fingers safely out of the way of the sharp cutting edges of the plane.

Limitations

I purchased mine on-line and was initially a little disappointed when I realized just how small a compartment it provided.  It was fine for grating chocolate chips or small cloves of garlic, but a bit awkward to use with a Chocolate Kiss or a whole piece of nutmeg.

But then of course I realized that it's just these types of small items that pose the greatest danger to your fingers when grating.  It is quite useful when you get down to that last piece of expensive Locatelli Romano you'd rather not discard.

The Microplane Grater Attachment can usually be purchased wherever Microplanes are sold.  It is priced at $4.95.  Remember it only fits the graters in the Home Series.  I use it with my Microplane Coarse Grater and the Extra Coarse Grater.

Cleaning

The Grater Attachment is all plastic and can be either hand or machine washed.

My Viewpoint

This is a worthwhile addition to your Microplane collection.  If you enjoy using your Microplane this is a smart buy.
