You've never used a grater like this

Comments about Microplane 2-Sided Box Grater:

This is a kitchen tool from a company that began by making workshop tools.  That means that the edges are extremely sharp.  This is a box grater, which means that it can stand up on its own, and has more than one grating surface.  This model has two surfaces, one with large edges/holes for shredding cheese or vegetables like onions or carrots, and a side with small edges/holes for zesting citrus, grating hard cheese, etc.  The food falls down the middle of the box onto your work surface or plate.I have always used a simple grater with a single surface, that you have to hold up over your bowl, plate, or work surface.  I find this box model much easier to work with, it doesn't move around.I've only used this product once, but I couldn't believe how easy it was to zest a lemon. Sounds crazy. Barely used any pressure, the lemon was perfectly zested, all of the rind and none of the pith. I'll write again when I need it for cheese and veggies.

sharp and easy to use!

Comments about Microplane 2-Sided Box Grater:

Like all Microplane graters, this thing is astonishingly sharp and I shred with care whenever I use it. I haven't bloodied the thing yet but I know it's just a matter of time. The design and shape of this Microplane 2 sided box grater pretty much requires it be cleaned in the dishwasher, there's no easy way to clean it by hand. The sliding finger protector works, but it's not great. It's finicky to install and it requires 2 hands to remove. It does serve its purpose when you get down to, say, a small remaining piece of carrot - and you really don't want to take chances barehanding small pieces. Have I mentioned the grater is devilishly sharp? Biggest flaw: the grating surface is too small, given the overall height of the unit. By small I mean short, you have to make many short strokes across the grater as opposed to fewer longer ones to get the job done. In the end, I like it because its sharpness is better than any other grater I've seen, but ergonomically it's a little flawed. Frighteningly sharp, if I haven't mentioned that....
