I admit to being easy prey when it comes to a bargain.  That is how I ended up with a shipment of the most useless daffodil bulbs from Michigan Bulb Co.  Let me start from the beginning.

I received a bunch of garden catalogs in the mail and one of them was from a company I had never used before.  The catalog was full of gorgeous photos of flowers, shrubs, grasses, and trees.  More important, was the discount coupon on the front cover of the catalog offering a $20 savings when you spend $40.  In addition, the plants were guaranteed to grow or the company would send free replacements, or your money back. I couldn't resist the thought of beautiful daffodils and a 50% discount, so I went to the website (michiganbulb.com) and placed an order.

My excitement quickly faded when I opened the box containing my order.  I pulled out a bag of substandard, scrawny little bulbs.  Many of the bulbs even appeared to be rotted - there were black spots on many of them.  Nothing at all what I expected.

I immediately called the customer service number to complain about my shipment.  The customer service representative was incredibly pleasant and she empathized with my concerns.  She placed a replacement order for me, and it arrived soon after.  Unfortunately, the second shipment was only slightly better than the first.  There were no rotting bulbs in the replacement order, but they still were not a top quality product.   I planted them anyway, but didn't get my hopes up.

This spring, roughly half of the bulbs came up and they looked fine.  The other half didn't even bother to sprout.  I still have the option for free replacements, but I'm going to cut my losses and find a better supplier for next year.

Overall, the customer service department was professional and helpful.  Unfortunately, the bulbs that I ordered from Michigan Bulb were so poor in quality that I cannot recommend them.

You know, this was an interesting review and it put me in mind of that crummy double-fiber bread from Brownberry that I complained about a few weeks ago because I'm beginning to wonder if these companies aren't really keeping track of the EXPIRATION date on some of these things where freshness is really a big issue. I bet they had those bulbs hanging around too long but it's a shame. Whoever packed them should have noticed they weren't good and no amount of money can replace the effort and disappointment you went through. I hope a lot of other gardeners are warned off by your valuable review. Wow, I guess I should get down off my soapbox, huh?

Wow I have ordered from them before, although it has been about 5 years ago. They used to be tops but I guess times change, what a shame I was gonna get some flowers for my front yard. Think I will get them elsewhere now. ;)

I haven't ordered from them in years. With all your flower reviews you are making me want to get out and put in a new flower bed.
