I love having a nice smelling home and have used scented candles for many years. Now that I have two young boys, who are constantly roughhousing with our big dog and a cat that climbs all over, the open flame of a candle scares me. I am so afraid that it will be knocked over and start a fire. I recently came across the Mia Bella Simmer Pot at flameswithflair.com. It's safer than candles but not quite the perfect solution.

About Mia Bella's Scent Simmer Pot...

Mia Bella's Scent Simmer Pot is an electric simmer pot, which can be used with Mia Bella Mia Melts or with any simmer wax, fragrance oil or potpourri. (When using fragrance oils or potpourri keep container half full with water.) Included is a 40-watt light bulb that melts the scented wax. This pot is currently available in the color white only.

The manufacturer notes the following precautions while using this Simmer Pot:
  • Place in a safe location away from children, pets and delicate furniture.
  • Simmer products may be hot and there may be oils or colors that could cause burns or damage to furniture if accidentally spilled.
  • Never pick up Simmer Pot while it is in use as it will be hot. Wait for the base to cool prior to any movement.
  • Avoid spilling any hot liquid or wax onto hot bulb as it may cause it to break.

My Experience...

I really like the simple but elegant look to this pot. It's white so it fits in nicely with any decor. The 40-watt light bulb used to melt the scented wax also makes this simmer pot an attractive little lamp. It is just about ready to use right out of the box because the only assembly required is placing the top on the base. The top doesn't fit very securely on the base so use caution around it. The cord has a very handy on/off switch so you don't have to keep unplugging the unit every time you are done with it. As this pot is heating up, you will begin to smell the great scent throughout several rooms. I use the Mia Melts in my pot and just two of them last for many uses. If you decide that you want to change scents, removing the wax from the simmer pot is quite easy. Just pour the warm wax into an appropriate container. (Be sure not to use sharp objects that could scratch the bowl.) Clean the simmer pot with warm water and then just replace with a different scented melt. Since I do have animals and children, I keep mine up on a high shelf because the base does get very hot. It is safer than candles but still is a burn hazard.

My Final Viewpoint...

The Mia Bella Simmer Pot is attractive and gives off a wonderful long lasting scent but the unit can get very hot. I do recommend this product but caution that it should be kept away from children and animals. I am giving this simmer pot a 3 star rating.

Here's a little hint. Ya know those Glade scented oil candles? If used with an old scented wax tart (something that has lost it's scent it will last longer. I have those melting in my warmers (don't light the Glade candle). But make sure it is melted with wax!

This sounds like a great simmer pot! I love a nicely scented home and usually have a candle burning or an electric simmer pot on.

I enjoy a sweet smelling home too, but like many others worry about the girls and the pets ... but this sounds like I could place up on a counter where they couldn't reach and still enjoy the fragrance. good tips.

I have it and agree it does get hot and the top is a bit wiggly. Still a lot safer around here than candles. My cats are cccrraaazzzyyy!

I once caused a small fire in our house (really I left a candle burning). Luckily our smoke detector worked but I do LIKE safer candles. Thanks. Jo
