An Oprah show changed all of that. I was watching an episode about how families could adopt environmentally conscious practices with little extra effort. This show was the first time I had heard about Method's non-toxic, biodegradable cleaning products. The Method line of products was described as gentle yet effective against tough stains and stubborn soap scum.
Quite frankly, I had my doubts.
I mean, conventional wisdom has reinforced the idea that the lingering bleach smell that makes your eyes water is the true test of whether or not your bathroom is germ-free. And if that's the case, I wondered, how could something non-toxic really clean anything well?
To answer my own question, I decided to put Method to the test. I found out that Method products can be ordered at the company website (www.methodhome.com) or at local retailers. I went to my local Target store and purchased a handful of products that I would use on a trial basis. If they worked, my ammonia and chlorine days would be over for good.
Method Daily Shower Spray Cleaner
I started with a clean tub and began to use the 28 ounce spray cleaner. First, I spray a mist on all wet surfaces after every shower. I also spray the shower curtain because it can get a little scummy; even the ones that are supposed to be mildew-resistant. The spray imparts a lingering ylang-ylang scent that is so light and fresh and such a departure from the heavy fumes I'm accustomed to. Better yet, by the end of the week, although the tub still needed a cleaning, the time it took me to complete the chore was cut down in half. I found I didn't have to scrub nearly as much or as hard as before to get the same shiny results. The product helped to prevent the buildup of soap scum, mildew, and hard water stains. I'm totally sold on this product!
Realistically, this isn't a product that is going to save you from ever having to clean your tub again. It's just doesn't seem strong enough to me. And although the label says you can get a dirty tub clean in 2 -3 weeks just by using this product alone, I think it makes more sense to start out with a clean tub and use the cleaner just to freshen the bath and speed up your regular cleaning time.
Without question, Method's Shower Spray cleaner makes the time between thorough cleanings much less frequent and it infuses the bath area with a light calming scent. By misting your shower clean, you are making a positive impact on the environment, as well making your home a healthier place to be.
