Mephisto Light Hiking Socks Review

I bought a pair of Mephisto Light Hiking Socks at a terrific price at www.sierratradingpost.com. I paid $3.95. They have a retail price of $13.00. I bought a pair of shoes as well so I didn’t have the shipping costs.

I hike tough trails but we often hike easier trails which we did recently on our first hike for 2007. I wore my new socks and love them.

Even though it was a cool day I work up a sweat when hiking. My feet stayed dry. These socks are made of 76% acrylic, 18% nylon and 6% elastic.

The color is dark brown but because of the ribbing there is a lot of white throughout.

They come in one size which fits 5 ½ to 10. I wear a shoe size 7 and like the way the socks fit.

They have a padded toe and a padded heel. My hiking boots are well worn in so I don’t know if I would ever get blisters as long as I’m wearing a heavier than casual sock.

I do think because the heel is padded you would be less apt to get blisters.

The style is called rib knit with a band around the top which keeps them up. They are midweight and crew height. They measure 8 ½ inches from top to heel.

I washed them after my hike in the machine. The directions say to dry them inside out at a normal temperature. I have several other pairs of hiking socks and I washed these the same way. I wash them inside out and dry them on the rack. Knowing I can put these in the dryer is great though because hanging things to dry while camping isn’t convenient.

If for some reason you dislike logos on products skip these. There is a sewn on green (small) M on the side of the sock.
