Memory Makers is a magazine publication I had heard about in the past but never had any desire to read. I never had the slightest interest in scrapbooks and thus I could see no value in reading this magazine- even if I could obtain it free of charge.

But something happened in 2005 that changed my lifestyle, my likes/dislikes, and my attitudes completely: I became the father of a baby girl, and just last year I added another baby to the family. Suddenly, I started noticing things and starting buying things I never would have considered in the past. And Memory Makers was one of them. It is always a good idea to keep memories of your little ones and Memory Makers is all about preserving memories. Its pages are dedicated to organizing pictures, buying crafting tools, and engaging in creative projects all aimed at scrapbooks and the special memories contained within.

Before I began looking at Memory Makers, I viewed keeping a scrapbook as a simple undertaking. In my mind, a scrapbook was nothing more than a book with cardboard pages that including pictures, souvenirs, articles of achievement, etc., taped, glued, or stapled to the pages. I never considered anything else. But like Memory Makers has shown, there is much more to creating a scrapbook than that. The articles in Memory Makers take the art of scrapbooking to new levels, with all sorts of creative ways to make a scrapbook and improve the way one is constructed.

To keep this magazine more interesting, Memory Makers often shakes up the departments and articles in each issue. It is common to open one monthly issue and find a set of five departments and then open the next month's issue and find an altered list of departments. Columns vary in scope, too. One column might focus on organization while another might focus on something more unique, like matching specific colors in your scrapbook with corresponding holidays or seasons. Also, it is common to find special issues throughout the year and these special issues often have a higher cover price than the others.

Overall, Memory Makers is a very nice little magazine about the art of scrapbook making and it has introduced me to an entirely new magazine genre- one I would likely have never bothered with were it not for my two little girls. I never imagined that the scrapbook business was this big or that there were so many unique and creative ways to fill the pages of a scrapbook. Memory Makers shows that there is more than one way to create a scrapbook, and ranks among the better hobby- related magazines I have read in the past year.
