Melissa and Doug Review Summary

Melissa and Doug Puzzles, Toys and Games may not be as easy to find as Fisher Price or other well known name brands, but they are durable, educational, fun and unique, providing hours of educational entertainment for your child. Shaagen says, “These don't provide mindless entertainment, rather they challenge your child and spark creativity.” While they are more expensive than other puzzles or games, they are long lasting and survived Vxvickiex three children she says, “I have yet to have one of them that didn't hold up to the abuse of my three children.” Nanacarol keeps her grandchildren happy with the toys that have so much variety, “From doll houses, magnetic calendars, wood puzzles to rolling toys these toys have been wonderful.” Each toy, game or puzzle is not only fun to do but can teach your child important life skills from color and letter recognition to creative thinking. They may be hard to find for some, though Toys R Us carries many of their items, and our reviewers agree they may cost a little more but they are worth it. These toys and puzzles will be frequently used.  They are educational and durable.  Just some of the topics include the ABCs, numbers, colors, transportation, and community helpers, basically the perfect topics for preschoolers and kingergardeners.  The skill requirements match the intellectual level. You won't spend too much money.  These don't provide mindless entertainment, rather they challenge your child and spark creativity.  They are classic and will last because they don't encorporate the latest popular character to be pushed on to youngesters.  Therefore, they can used with... review »

I purchased the Melissa and Doug Easel for my grandchildren to provide an alternative to the reams of paper they draw on.  The price was reasonable-I bought it from Amazon.com/free shipping.  It has a dry eraser side and a chalk board side.  The dry erase side now has 2 scratches but they don't interfer with the writing and drawing.  The chalk board is not used as much as the dry erase because it doesn't take the chalk well-I use Crayola white and color chalk.  The assembly was easy.

We love Melissa and Doug products. They are a little more expensive than the others, but they are durable and will last so much longer if taken care of. There is a very wide range of products and we have alot of them. I have yet to have one of them that didn't hold up to the abuse of my three children.

Melissa and Doug toys are amongst our favorites.  Most of their toys are made from wood and are of the highest quality.  If you are trying to impress a new parent, purchase a Melissa and Doug toy!  These toys are sold at Macy's and high end boutiques, but I have also seen some of their toys at Michael's and some discount stores (like Ross and TJ Maxx).

For the quality of the toys, you would expect to be paying a fortune, but this is not the case.   Most of their toys are quite affordable.

My kids have several Melissa and Doug toys, but one of their favorites is the Farm Chunky Puzzle...

Before my son I had never heard of Melissa and Doug. Little-tykes? Sure. Playskool? Of course. Fisher-Price? Regularly. But I was a newbie when it came to Melissa and Doug.

A friend gave me a Melissa and Doug puzzle at a baby shower and my first impression was "Oh! How adorable!" It looked like a retro wooden puzzle with bright colors and playful drawings. I had no idea that the brand was as large as it was. I soon stumbled upon Melissa and Doug shape stacking toys, blocks and pull toys. All were of the same high quality materials and design. There are, of course, a whole lot more items. I wouldn't...

Melissa and Doug have created some of the best puzzles out there for 1-4yr olds.  So far, my son has 3 of them-- one which is barnyard animals (3 pieces), one which is a scene with 3 dinosaurs (9 pieces) that makes noise when all the pieces are in, and the third-- and by far the best, most creative educational puzzle I've seen-- is a board with six different types of latches on it.  Each door is held shut by a different kind of latch, and each door has fun animals just waiting for him! This puzzle offers a lot in one place-- colors, counting, shape recognition, and improving motor skills.  Frankly,... review »

I have 7 grandchildren from 23 down to 3 yrs old and we all love to play with Melissa & Doug toys and puzzles. From doll houses, magnetic calendars, wood puzzles to rolling toys these toys have been wonderful. They are toys for the long haul and I don't just mean durability, I mean the kids go back to them time after time and really look forward to the ones that stay at Nana's house to play with.  I guess I am just a big kid, but I just love these toys and this company. They are very imaginitive (sp?) and I look forward to seeing the new things they come up with. Try these toys, you will not be... review »

I have purchased Melissa and Doug educational toys and find them very educational.  A bit pricey.  When I see the name on the side of the wood box or package, I know it is an educational toy of great quality.  Two years ago I purchased their vegetables and fruit with Velcro to attach the pieces together, and it is still one of my children's favorites in their play kitchen.  They use the cutting board and wooden knife and cut in each groove which separates the Velcro to make a cutting noise.  I have other wooden toys and puzzles by Melissa and Doug and the children enjoy each item.

We love all Melissa and Doug toys. Some may be a bit pricey but they last forever and our daughter loves learning and playing with them.  She loves the dress up magnetic Nina Ballerina and Maggie dolls.  She is also becoming a master of the animal puzzle which has the sheep, dog, bird and bunny each with 4 pieces each.  It makes her think.  She also has the larger 9 piece puzzle which she is still learning to master.  i think these toys are great at making children think and they are fun too!  It helps that they are durable and hard to break.

my son now has at least 3 puzzles from Melissa & Doug's line.  Fire engine, john deere tractor, dinosaur.  Dinosaur was a hand me down.  Boy, it was a big hit from the start.  Slightly above his age group.  Fire engine and tractor puzzles are more his age group and he puts them together himself.  Puzzles are rugged and durable, fun to have around.  Great engaging toy.  A name that I trust and I tell family -- make sure it is "Melissa & Doug's " puzzle and we know we will have fun.

I love to watch my daughter select a Melissa and Doug toy over her more modern, electronic toys.  M & D toys are old fashioned and made of wood, so they last a lot longer than anything plastic.  With that durability, of course, comes a price.  These toys are usually a lot more expensive than others.

I love Melissa & Doug toys. They are well-made, non-toxic and loved by my kids. You can find some of them at discount toys if you find them expensive, but I find them completely worth the money. In a world of cheap plastic noisy crap, Melissa & Doug toys are breath of fresh air.
