My son (almost 4) is very interested in reading, letters and spelling. He really wants to be able to read himself and spell.

A friend of mine bought my son the Melissa and Doug Deluxe Wooden See and Spell so I took it out and decided that we would have a reading/spelling lesson every day for about an hour. I am convinced I am going to teach him to read soon!! :)

What I didnt realize when I first took out the See and Spell toy was that all the letters are lower-case. May seem like a minor point, but it is actually quite major. Most toys default to capitals only. So, despite my child knowing all of...

It is helping my preschooler learn to spell!

My son loves this educational toy and so do I. (I am a teacher.) As with all Melissa & Doug toys, this one is durable, colorful and inviting to a child. Each large piece has a colorful picture of the word and the letters to spell that word are engraved in the piece. This helps young children find the missing letters by matching the letter shapes. The toy helps build letter recognition, letter sounds, sight word recognition and spelling. It comes in a wooden box with a slide on plastic tray which is great for storage. Great way for kids to start learning to read and spell.

These kinds of toys will benefit our youn children. They will help them to learn how to spell and read(as long as you help them to sound the words out). Its a great activity for young children.
