This last Christmas my five year old, who is six now, and my nine year old both asked for more Mega Bloks to add to their collection.  From what I understood, these types of blocks were for younger children but mine still wanted more.  Even my nephew who is ten and my niece who is six had Mega Bloks on their Christmas list.  I found a great deal at Wal-Mart on the Mega Bloks 80-piece maxi bag.  They even had a different set for girls which had pink pieces and flowered blocks. Each bag was only $9.99 so I bought four.

The Facts

  • 80 piece set
  • Primary colors
  • Big interlocking blocks easy for small hands to grasp

My Experience

Both of my boys have had Mega Bloks since they were very young, still ask for more and, are still creating with them today, literally (see picture below).  My older son added this 80-piece set to another he had and made a cool looking "ship".  My youngest son made a "police station" where he incorporated his police cars.  These blocks are ones that my children just don't seem to outgrow.  The bright colors initially caught their eye when they were toddlers but now that they are older, the cool shapes like a peaked rooftop and several knobs and wheels are what keeps them attentive today.

My Final Viewpoint

The Mega Bloks 80-piece maxi bag was a great buy.  The blocks are lightweight and large enough in size as to not pose a choking hazard for younger children.  I know that this will not be the last Mega Bloks purchase that I will make so I of course recommend this set to others.  My kids love them and because of their durability and promotion of creativity, I am giving this set a 4 star rating.  I would have went with 5 but the blocks tend to not fit very tightly causing them to topple over at times.

Last night our 2 built my husband & I "trophies" from these blocks for being the best mom & dad. I love these blocks too. We've def. gotten our monies worth out of them.

Yup, Jenni has the flowered ones, the only complaint I would have is the pieces tend to fall apart easy.
