I'm one of those people that like to join official organizations and keep myself involved in local activities, even if it means getting labeled in a stereotypical way for associating with a specific club or group. Now that I have moved to a new part of the country, I find myself once again looking around for different activist groups, social gatherings, and other ways to fill my time. One web site that has helped me get connected is Meetup.com, a web service for keeping notified.
Web Site Commentary:
Meetup.com is designed to help people find other people with a common interest. It sorts is different...
I use several methods of social networking such as Yahoo Groups, Facebook and even starting tweet tweeting at Twitter but Meetup.com is the first site I have seen that successfully takes social or professional networking away from the Internet and back to the real world.

review »By the time my 3rd kid rolled around, I was getting bored hanging out at home all the time with no friends (all my friends had careers instead of families!), so I decided to do an internet search for playgroups. That search led me to meetup.com and it's been the best 3 years of my mommyhood. We go to playdates atleast 2 times a week and my kids have a blast playing with other kids. I enjoy the MNO (moms night out) and it's great knowing there's other moms out there dealing with the same issues raising their kids.
