The Case

I've got five brothers and sisters, and they're all under the age of ten.  Mostly because of them, I feel that I'm extremely well-versed in the wide world of children's movies.  I've seen a LOT of them!  But, ironically enough, when I saw the latest Disney movie, Meet The Robinsons, I wasn't actually with any of the kids.  That one a friend and I saw together.  Afterwards, I was so pleased and entertained by the film that I couldn't wait to go see it again with my siblings!

The Good

The themes in Robinsons are just wonderful!  The importance of family, believing in your dreams, and never giving up, in spite of failure, were so clearly illustrated in this movie, and I loved them!  The characters were original, funny, and a real hoot.  Even the villain was different from the cookie-cutter molded bad guy, and Louis, the abandoned orphan around whom the movie revolves, is unbelievably loveable and engaging.  You can't help rooting for him.  It was a joy to join him on his emotional rollercoaster for the length of the movie!

The humor in this Disney film is a little different from other, more conventional stories.  It's quirky, and kind of offbeat.  The laughter in the theater wasn't nearly as prevalent as when I went to see Finding Nemo or The Incredibles, which were both hilarious, but Robinsons has its own unique vibe, and it doesn't stint on the entertainment.  I laughed the whole time.  Especially at the dinosaur.  Loved the dinosaur!

The Bad

If you're a fan of traditionalist children's comedy, you might not enjoy Meet The Robinsons as much as other family releases.  It struck me as a kid's version of Monty Python.  It's totally clean - no worries there, parents! - it's just a very different overall tone than typical Disney fare.  Also, like most kids movies nowadays, it's got a few of those dark, villainous scenes, which can be scary for very young viewers.  I think if your youngsters can handle the Toy Story movies and Robots, though, this flick will be just fine!

The Verdict

Five stars!  I was thrilled to Meet The Robinsons!

I enjoyed the movie too. My kids are 4 and 8 and they liked it. I liked the message it sent and I particularly liked the way it did depart from the typical disney style kid's movie. I find them predictable and boring.

Great Review! I chaperoned 425 fifth graders to see it and I enjoyed it as much as they did.

If you get super homesick for MI, I'm willing to consider a trade...grin.

Sounds good! I saw the preview for this a few months ago and it looked cute.
