Once I got past the design and styling, I zeroed in on the features of my new purchase. Of course, being manufactured by Medline, the cane is of hospital quality. It is height adjustable - there is a metal push button mechanism that fits into one of ten holes, spaced about an inch apart. This is how you adjust the cane to work with your height. I have mine in the second hole from the bottom to increase the height and I've not had any problems with my posture while using it.
Once you've made the height adjustment, the locking collar screws tight for safety. After all, you don't want your cane to shift while you're in mid-stride. The cane handles body weight up to 250 pounds and is rustproof. I've used mine in all types of weather and it has held up remarkably well. I do have some scratching and wearing off of the finish, but no rusting. Moreover, the comfortable foam padding on the handle and the heavy rubber tip at the base are still holding strong. Neither has worn off or shown any signs of coming loose from the metal.
Finally, and perhaps most important, is the offset design of the handle. The offset handle is considered by many healthcare providers to be preferable to the traditional curved design. Offsetting the handle is reported to provide better grip and support. I've used both and I admit to not seeing a huge difference, but I do prefer this design over the traditional version.
Overall, don't be shy about using the Offset Handle Cane from Medline. It looks great, and provides a firm grip and dependable support.
