I, like many first time mom's, was astonished when looking to purchase my first breast pump. When I realized that a good pump would cost me at least $280.00, I thought, that is a rediculous amount of money and started to look for a cheaper model. Well, again, like many before me, I settled on a Playtex double electric pump. And, as always, you get what you pay for. I had saved a hefty amount by purchasing the Playtex, however, it didn't work well for me. I ended up buying the Medela double electric pump anyway. However, this was possibly the best "baby" purchase I made. Not only did the time it took to pump get cut in half but I was able to get twice as much milk because of some of the features the Medela comes with. For instance, there is a "let down" button. This allows for breast stimulation and can be utilized as many times as needed. The benefit to using this let down button is that your body is now thinking it needs to produce more. As if that wasn't benefit enough, the Medela double electric pump is always fabulous for traveling. It comes with a battery pack and a car adaptor. This comes in real handy for the working mom. I can speak from experience that the battery pack will last quite awhile. I went camping for six days and didn't have to replace the batteries until the very last day of the trip. Also making the Medela pump practical is the fact that it comes in a bag. This may sound silly, however, the pump is perfectly placed so that all the attachments are readily available and easy to get to. The Medela pump is well worth the money. Save yourself the time and energy of trying to find a cheaper version.
