McDonalds McGriddle —

I was introduced to the McGriddle one day when I took some girls to McDonald's for breakfast before church.  They all ordered the McGriddles.  I don't eat breakfast so I ordered a sweet tea and was good to go.  I could smell something sweet as the girls ate and I realized the "sandwich" had syrup inside it.  Pretty cool concept; especially when you don't want a child to mess up her dress before church.

I didn't think I would eat a McGriddle until a few weeks later when I stopped to get a southern style chicken biscuit and they were out.  So, I decided to try the McGriddle.  I got the bacon and chees, no egg.  I took one bite and I actually liked it.

The sandwich is a pancake with syrup inside it.  You get one fluffed/folded egg, 2 strips of bacon, and one slice of American cheese.  The sandwich makes you think of Grandma's cookies because they put the McD's logo on each pancake. Then you have your choice of bacon or sausage with egg and cheese.  I can't remember if they do a ham or not but I don't think so because I would choose ham over bacon.  Okay, I don't like the fast food eggs.  I'm not sure why but I think they are artificial and they're just too bulky for me.  So, I order the bacon, egg, and cheese without the egg.  This is one delicious sandwich.

Now I know it is probably not the healthiest thing I could eat but like my Daddy says, "If she's going to eat just leave her alone.  At least she's eating."  When I tried my first McGriddle I was getting one every week.  Now it has probably been about 2 months since I last had one.

You can go to McDonalds.com and customize any menu item and get the specific nutritional values for it after you have added or removed ingredients.  I got the following information for a Bacon and Cheese McGriddle (minus the egg):

  • Calories: 340
  • Total Fat: 13g
  • Trans Fat: 0
  • Cholesterol: 20 mg
  • Sodium: 1090 mg
  • Carbs: 45 g
  • Dietary Fiber: 2 g
  • Protein: 10 g
  • Allergen Statement--This sandwich contains the following: Wheat, milk, soy, and soy lecithin

I wouldn't eat this on a regular basis because it's so high in carbs.  It is extremely high in sodium too but I have pernicious anemia (sodium deficiency) so I have been told to use as much salt as I want to bring my blood pressure up.  I don't use salt for seasoning so I only get it as a preservative or when it is used as a food preparation outside of my home.

If you want a quick breakfast with several of the food groups in one then this is a good choice.  You get your meat, dairy, and bread.  And to those of you who love syrup; you get a cleaner version of that nasty runny, sticky stuff.

Ummm...now I'm wanting a McGriddle.  Maybe I will stop and get one tomorrow morning on the way into the office.

I actually only get to McDonald's three or four times a years, tops, but I must confess that I always enjoy what they have to offer.

My mother (Grammy) takes our children to McDonalds for breakfast on Saturdays whenever she has them. She said this is the only thing she will let them have because they aren't messy. I can't believe she actually found something they all will eat! I'm sure she is letting them choose between sausage patty and bacon and some of our kids won't eat eggs either. ~Shelton
