The best applebutter I have ever had is made right here in Frederick, Maryland. The company has been around since 1938, started by William O. McCutcheon after he retired from a local canning company at the age of 80. The business is still family run by fourth generation sons and daughters. It is located at 13 S. Wisner Street. They sell wholesale to stores and retail in the store and mail order. Their web address is http://www.mccutcheons.com.

Applebutter is only one of the many items they carry. They have a full line of jams, jellies, fruit butters, and preserves; as well as salad dressings, relishes, pickles, hot sauce, mustard, and barbeque sauce. Then of course, let's not forget the delicious cider and juices.

I sold most of their products when we had our store, as well as used them in our home. Some of my favorites in addition to the applebutter, are the preserves-blackberry, blueberry, red raspberry, black raspberry, cherry, strawberry rhubarb and my very favorite orange marmalade. I don't know any brand of orange marmalade that comes close to McCutcheon's in taste or quality.

The apple cider is just about in right now as fall is approaching. When the apples are being harvested and people are getting into the fall season cider becomes a very popular drink. McCutcheon's make a couple kinds of cider. Apple comes in clear (which is filtered) or cloudy (not filtered). Another good thing about their cider is the lack of preservatives. It shortens the shelf life, but is much better tasting.

The fruit butters are wonderful. The flavors are cherry, peach and pumpkin. Spread the pumpkin butter on your toast and it's like eating pumpkin pie for breakfast.

I continue to use McCutcheon's products because they are top quality and delicious. I also give friends McCutcheon's products for special occasions and hear them rave about how nice a gift it is. When we visit our daughter in Georgia, we have to make a run to the local store and pick some up for her family. However, they will ship any where and there products show up in many locations in the states surrounding Maryland.

I didn't know what to fix for breakfast today and I was out of bread. So I mixed up some Bisquick with milk and an egg and baked it on the griddle. They were thick and a bit heavy, but we spread the black raspberry preserves on them and they were delicious.
